  1. 1. Polyelectrolyte Brush Electrodes for Protein Capture and Release

    Author : Gustav Ferrand-Drake Del Castillo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pH-responsive interfaces; Polyelectrolyte brushes; protein immobilization; electrochemistry.;

    Abstract : Stimuli-responsive polyelectrolyte brushes switch as a function of pH between a charged and neutral state that affects their electrostatic interactions with other charged molecules like proteins. Adjustment of the pH results in the binding of large quantities of proteins making polyelectrolyte brushes widely used as biointerfaces. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and Applications of Surface-Confined Transition Metal Complexes : Heterogeneous Catalysis and Anisotropic Particle Surfaces

    Author : Kristofer Eriksson; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Graham Hutchings; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heterogeneous catalysis; anisotropic particles; protein gradients; nanoparticles; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The main focus of this thesis has been directed towards developing novel surface-confined transition metal complexes for applications in heterogeneous catalysis and for the preparation of anisotropic particle surfaces. The first part describes the heterogenization of a homogeneous transition metal-based catalyst tetraphenyl cobalt porphyrin (CoTPP) on silicon wafers and on silica particles. READ MORE

  3. 3. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY

    Author : Karl Kristensen; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; Obstetrics; pregnancy; renal function; serum amyloid A protein; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; preeclampsia; beta-2 microglobulin; C-reactive protein; cystatin C; inflammation; placenta; beta trace protein; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 4. 4. Characterization of membrane protein active transport under native-like conditions

    Author : Harsha Ravishankar; Magnus Andersson; Pål Stenmark; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : P-type ATPase proteins are a family of membrane proteins that maintain concentration gradients of e.g. ions by ATP-driven transport across the membrane. While these transporters share many features in their molecular architecture, structural differences are required to convey ion specificity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Surface characterization and manipulation of polyampholytic hydrogel coatings

    Author : Feng-I Tai; Thomas Ederth; Bo Liedberg; Lei Ye; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrogels; antifouling; charge-balanced material; polyampholytes; force measurements; polymer swelling; protein adsorption; patterning; plasmonics;

    Abstract : This thesis is dedicated to building up fundamental knowledge about polyampholytic hydrogels, which are developed in our group for anti-fouling purposes. Charge-balanced polymers, where positive and negative charges balance each other, have emerged as interesting candidates for many applications in materials science. READ MORE
