1. Antibody based plasma protein profiling
Abstract : This thesis is about protein profiling in serum and plasma using antibody suspension bead arrays for the analysis of biobanked samples and in the context of prostate cancer biomarker discovery. The influence of sample preparation methods on antibody based protein profiles were investigated (Papers I-III) and a prostate cancer candidate biomarker identified and verified (Papers III-V). 2. Clinical implementation of novel diagnostic biomarkers for epithelial ovarian cancer - Can we improve diagnosis?
Abstract : Background: Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecologic cancer. The 5-year survival is about 30%, a consequence of failure to establish early diagnosis due to unspecific symptoms. READ MORE

3. Evaluation of amyloid precursor protein and ß-amyloid as biomarkers for Alzheimer s disease
Abstract : Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterised by accumulations of neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques. The major components of the amyloid deposits are the ß-amyloid (Aß) peptides derived from the amyloid precursor protein (APP). READ MORE

4. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY
Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 5. Biomarker detection via lab-on-a-chip integrated immunoaffinity approach for fluorescence and mass spectrometry readout
Abstract : The blood/plasma protein biomarker profile represents the pathological and physiological changes relating to human diseases. However, the plasma proteome reflects a high degree of complexity that results in a challenge for most analytical methods in clinical diagnostics. READ MORE
