  1. 1. Living Conditions of People with Intellectual Disabilities : A Study of Health, Housing, Work, Leisure and Social Relations in a Swedish County Population

    Author : Õie Umb-Carlsson; Frits-Axel Wiesel; Karin Sonnander; Anders Möller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Disability studies; intellectual disabilities; living conditions; health conditions; mortality; associated disabilities; gender; comparative study; proxy responding; Handikappforskning; Disability research; Handikappsforskning;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis is to describe mortality, health and living conditions in an administratively defined county population of people with intellectual disabilities born between 1959 and 1974 (N=213). The living conditions of persons with intellectual disabilities were compared with those of the general population. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effects of heavy metal contamination on carbon and nitrogen cycling : An ecological approach to assess risks to soil functions

    Author : Ingrid Rijk; Alf Ekblad; Dan Berggren Kleja; Erik Karltun; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy metals; soil contamination; stable isotopes; N cycling microbial guilds; 13C; 15N; nitrification; denitrification; biochar; soil respiration; microbial activity; bioavailability;

    Abstract : Soil contamination with heavy metals may disrupt soil microorganisms with important roles in carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) cycling. However, there is a lack of understanding on how microorganisms are affected in soil, which may lead to a mismatch when assessing risks of contaminants to field soils. READ MORE

  3. 3. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene

    Author : Sandra Raúl Sitoe; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Lars-Ove Westerberg; John Compton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Africa; Limpopo River floodplain; flooding event; sea-level change; climate change; diatoms; phytoliths; mineral magnetics; grain-size; radiocarbon dating; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 4. 4. Holocene environmental changes recorded by diatom stratigraphy in the southern Baltic Sea

    Author : Elinor Andrén; Rick W. Batterbee; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; allmän och historisk geologi; General and Historical Geology;

    Abstract : Sediment cores from the southern Baltic Sea and the Oder River estuary are analysed for their siliceous microfossil assemblages and organic carbon content. Long piston cores from the Bornholm and Gotland Basins provide data on the long-term Holocene history of the Baltic proper and serve as a natural background when evaluating the most recent environmental changes recorded in the short gravity cores.
