  1. 1. EMG and strength in trunk and hip muscles

    Author : Eva A Andersson; Alf Thorstensson; Margareta Nordin; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurophysiology; Neurofysiologi; abdominal muscles; biomechanics; electromyography; erector spinae; iliacus; iliopsoas; hip flexor muscles; locomotion; motor control; normalization; posture; psoas; quadratus lumborum; rehabilitation; running; sit-ups; strength; training exercises; u;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study the myouelectric activity of all major muscles involved in the movements and stabilization of the trunk, pelvis and hips during training exercises, postures, motor tasks, maximal strength performance and locomotion. By use of ultra-sound, EMG electrodes could be guided safely and accurately into muscles situated even close to the spinal column, such as psoas, quadratus lumborum and deep parts of erector spinae. 2. 2. Assessing and minimizing risk of patients with aortic disease

    Author : Roberta Vaccarino; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vascular diseases; Aortic disease; aortic aneurysm; risk assessment;

    Abstract : Prophylactic endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) aims to avoid aneurysm rupture. However, only patients with sufficient long-term survival get benefit from this avoidance. Therefore, accurate patient selection is crucial. READ MORE

  3. 3. Outcomes of arthroscopic hip surgery in patients with Femoro-acetabular Impingement

    Author : Mikael Sansone; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hip joint; hip arthroscopy; register; PROM; femoro-acetabular impingement; athlete; cam; outcome;

    Abstract : Hip and groin problems are common, especially among athletes. The treatment of hip and groin problems has undergone rapid change during the latest 15 years, mainly due to our understanding of femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI). READ MORE

  4. 4. Hormones, muscles and oncological outcome in men with rectal cancer

    Author : John Tapper; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Paper I. The aim was to elucidate if testosterone (T) dose-dependently increase muscle size in abdomen and pelvis, analogous to the known anabolic influence on appendicular muscles. Participants were young (age 18-50) healthy men participating in the 5a-reductase trail, a double blinded RCT. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structure and function of the cytoskeleton in cardiac and skeletal muscle

    Author : Johanna Balogh; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP-receptor; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; cardiomyopathy; transgenic mice; skeletal muscle; heart; muscle contraction; cytoskeleton; desmin;

    Abstract : We have examined the functional and structural roles of the cytoskeletal protein desmin in cardiac and skeletal muscles using a genetically modified mouse (Des-/-) with the desmin gene ablated. Desmin forms filaments at the Z-disks in the striated muscle sarcomere, have connections to the sarcolemma and most likely align sarcomeres and whole cells. READ MORE
