1. Synthesis and Characterisation of Conjugated Polymers with High Electron Affinity
Abstract : This thesis describes synthesis and characterisation of conjugated polymers with high electron affinities. Polymers of this type are desired, for example, for use in light-emitting devices or as electron accepting material in photodiodes/solar cells. READ MORE

2. Copper(II) Azido Complexes: Synthesis, X-ray structures, thermal and magnetic properties
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the synthesis and X-ray structure analysis of seven copper(II) and one cobalt(II) azido coordination polymer with quinoline and pyrazine derivatives as bridging co-ligands. The synthesis of these complexes were done by direct mixing of the metal salt (Cu(NO3)2 and CoCl2) and the organic ligand (pyrazinecarbonitrile, quinoxaline, quinoline-4-carboxylic acid and 2,5-dimethylpyrazine) solutions followed by the dropwise addition of aqueous sodium azide (NaN3) with continuous stirring. 3. A biophysical study of nucleic acid interactions with analogues and drugs
Abstract : work presented in this thesis concerns studies on the physicochemical nature of interactions between nucleic acids and small ligands. The outcome of such studies can yield insights at a molecular level into the physiological mechanisms of action of biologically active nucleic-acid binding molecules. READ MORE

4. Cyanoacetylation of indoles, pyrroles and amines, and synthetic uses of these products
Abstract : This thesis is based on an organic synthetic project aimed towards development of small molecules acting on the P2 receptor as well as development of synthetic methods to such molecules (primarily indoles and featuring isatogens in particular). The new methodology includes cyanoacetylation of indoles, pyrroles, amines, and enamines using cyanoacetic acid in acetic anhydride. READ MORE

5. Morphology and material stability in polymer solar cells
Abstract : Polymer solar cells are promising in that they are inexpensive to produce, and due to their mechanical flexibility have the potential for use in applications not possible for more traditional types of solar cells. The performance of polymer solar cells depends strongly on the distribution of electron donor and acceptor material in the active layer. READ MORE
