  1. 1. Dosimetry and radiation quality in fast-neutron radiation therapy : A study of radiation quality and basic dosimetric properties of fast-neutrons for external beam radiotherapy and problems associated with corrections of measured charged particle cross-sections

    Author : Jonas Söderberg; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Crister Ceberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neutron; Dosimetry; Radiotherapy; Monte Carlo; Microdosimetry; Cross-section; RBE; LET; Energy-loss corrections; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Abstract : The dosimetric properties of fast-neutron beams with energies ≤80 MeV were explored using Monte Carlo techniques. Taking into account transport of all relevant types of released charged particles (electrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, 3He and α particles) pencil-beam dose distributions were derived and used to calculate absorbed dose distributions. 2. 2. Quantification Methods for Clinical Studies in Nuclear Medicine - Applications in AMS, PET/CT and SPECT/CT

    Author : Marie Sydoff; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nuclear Medicine; AMS; PET CT; SPECT CT; dosimetry; internal dosimetry; quantification; activity quantification; volume delineation; radiation; biokinetics; pharmacokinetics; biodistribution;

    Abstract : An essential part of the development of new radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic nuclear medicine is the determination of its biokinetic properties. The uptake and turn-over of the radiopharmaceutical in the source organs is of great interest since this could determine whether the radiopharmaceutical would be suitable for clinical use or not. 3. 3. Key Data for the Reference and Relative Dosimetry of Radiotherapy and Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Beams

    Author : Hamza Benmakhlouf; Pedro Andreo; Klemens Zink; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Backscatter factors; Diagnostic radiology dosimetry; Mass energy-absorption coefficients; Monte Carlo; Output correction factors; Radiotherapy dosimetry; Reference dosimetry; Relative dosimetry; Small photon fields; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : Accurate dosimetry is a fundamental requirement for the safe and efficient use of radiation in medical applications. International Codes of Practice, such as IAEA TRS-398 (2000) for radiotherapy beams and IAEA TRS-457 (2007) for diagnostic radiology beams, provide the necessary formulation for reference and relative dosimetry and the data required for their implementation. 4. 4. Implementation of MRI gel dosimetry in radiation therapy

    Author : Sven Bäck; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; uncertainty; detector; dosimeter; ferrous ions; gel dosimetry; magnetic resonance imaging; monomers; polymerisation; proton; treatment planning verification; radiation therapy; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : Gel dosimetry was used together with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure three-dimensional absorbed dose distributions in radiation therapy. Two different dosimeters were studied: ferrous- and monomer gel, based on the principles of radiation-induced oxidation and polymerisation, respectively. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mixed Beam Dosimetry - From Reactor Core to BNCT Patient

    Author : Per Munck af Rosenschöld; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; BNCT; dosimetry; radiotherapy; mixed beam; quality assurance; in vivo dosimetry; Monte Carlo; ionization chamber; foil activation; MCNP; beam quality correction factor; photon transmission.; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiology; Nuclear medicine; radiobiologi; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik; Radiopharmaceutical technology;

    Abstract : Accurate radiation dosimetry is of paramount importance in order to ensure safe delivery of radiotherapy, and for the possibility of meaningful evaluation of clinical trials, as the radiation absorbed dose is correlated to tissue response. The aim of the studies described in this thesis was to investigate and devise novel approaches to mixed beam dosimetry in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). READ MORE
