  1. 1. Damage mechanisms for near-infrared radiation induced cataract

    Author : Zhaohua Yu; Per Söderberg; Konstantin Galichanin; Masami Kojima; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infrared radiation; photochemical; thermal; forward light scattering; lens; cataract; temperature; Arrhenius equation; heat diffusion;

    Abstract : Purpose: 1) To estimate the threshold dose and the time evolution for cataract induction by near infrared radiation (IRR) in seconds exposure time domain; 2) to determine the ocular temperature development during the threshold exposure; 3) to investigate if near IRR induces cumulative lens damage considering irradiance exposure time reciprocity; 4) to experimentally estimate the temperature in the lens indirectly from the measurement of temperature-induced light scattering increase.Methods: Before exposure, 6-weeks-old albino rats were anesthetized and the pupils of both eyes were dilated. 2. 2. Characterization of oxy-fuel flames - their composition, temperature and radiation

    Author : Klas Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Combustion; O2 CO2; NO formation; Radiation; Oxy-fuel; Flame properties;

    Abstract : Oxy-fuel combustion is receiving growing attention as one of the promising CO2 capture technologies in connection to power production. Yet, significant efforts are required in research and development of this combustion process in order to be able to design and optimize a full scale power plant. READ MORE

  3. 3. Heat Flow in Building Components, Experiment and Analysis

    Author : Petter Wallentén; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; radiation exchange; longwave; shortwave; transient; frequency analysis; finite difference; measurements; wall; window; heat transfer coefficient; convective; full scale; natural climate; in situ; counter flow insulation; heat transfer; dynamic insulation; temperature; building; solar radiation; window model; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Three building components exposed to natural climate were studied: a dynamic insulation in the ceiling of a house, an outer wall and one window in the same wall. The term dynamic insulation implies that part of the inlet or exhaust air passes through the insulation of a house. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biological growth on rendered façades

    Author : Sanne Johansson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; temperature; render; radiation; photosynthesis; moulds; mosses; mortar; moisture; lichens; Imaging-PAM; humidity; heat capacity; heat; ETICS; algae; biological growth; calorimetry; desiccation tolerance;

    Abstract : Biological organisms have an incredible ability to adapt to almost any environment and the humans activities on earth have created many new habitats for different kinds of organisms. For example can certain organisms grow on rocks and vertical cliffs, and when humans started building houses with mineral based façades, some organisms found that these were new habitats to live on. 5. 5. Temperature effects on UV-B induced DNA damage and repair in plants and a lichen

    Author : Markus Paulsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tobacco Nicotiana tabacum ; Temperature; Subarctic; Plants; Photoreactivation; Photolyase; Lichen; DNA damage; Cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers CPD ; 6-4 Photoproducts; Cladonia arbuscula ssp. mitis; Ultraviolet radiation; UV-B; Vaccinium vitis-idaea; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik;

    Abstract : All living organisms have DNA and since DNA is essential to life it must be repaired when damaged. UV radiation is one of the major DNA damaging agents, which photosynthetic organisms cannot avoid. READ MORE
