  1. 1. Parameters Controlling Distribution of Diagenetic Alterations within Fluvial and Shallow Marine Sandstone Reservoirs : Evidence from the Libyan Basins

    Author : Muftah Khalifa; Hemin Koyi; Joao Marcelo Medina Ketzer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diagenesis; Structural setting; Depositional facies; Basin thermal history; Ther- mal Hot basinal brines; Fluid inclusions; Raman Spectrometry; Stylolites; Hydro-carbon migration; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : This thesis demonstrates that geological setting, depositional facies, open system flux of hot basinal brines and descending of shallow waters have a strong impact on the distribution of the diagenetic alterations within continental and paralic/shallow marine sandstones which in turn control the quality and heterogeneities of the reservoirs.Geological setting controls the mineralogical and textural maturity of sandstone, whereas depositional facies control the pore water chemistry (marine, brackish or meteoric), sedimentary texture and sand body geometry. 2. 2. Atmospheric corrosion of copper and copper-based alloys in architecture : from native surface oxides to fully developed patinas

    Author : Tingru Chang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Tomas Prošek; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Copper and copper-based alloys are commonly used in both ancient and modern architecture. This requires an in-depth fundamental and applied understanding on their atmospheric corrosion behavior at different climatic, environmental and pollutant levels and how these parameters influence e.g. READ MORE

  3. 3. Humectants and skin : effects of hydration from molecule to man

    Author : Cathrine Albèr; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : skin; stratum corneum; hydration; hyaluronan; glycerol; urea;

    Abstract : Humectants belong to a group of hydrophilic compounds frequently used in skin care products with the aim to diminish the clinical symptom of skin dryness. The biochemical and biophysical mechanisms by which humectants interact with the skin barrier are far from fully understood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Micro-galvanic effects and corrosion inhibition of copper-zinc alloys

    Author : Mattias Forslund; Jinshan Pan; Christofer Leygraf; Per Claesson; Jin Ying; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Copper; zinc; brass; octadecanethiol; IR Spectroscopy; AFM; atmospheric corrosion; aqueous corrosion; corrosion inhibition; Koppar; zink; mässing; oktadekantiol; IR-reflektions absorptionsspektroskopi; AFM; atmosfärisk korrosion; vattenaktig korrosion; korrosionsinhibering.; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract :    With the advancement and accessibility of local probing techniques that can operate at the submicron scale it has become possible to analyse the local corrosion properties of industrially important metallic materials and relate these properties to microstructure characteristics of the same materials. In this doctoral study the focus has been on copper-zinc samples, both as industrial brass alloys and as micro-patterned copper-zinc samples. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mineral Reactions and Slag Formation During Reduction of Olivine Blast Furnace Pellets

    Author : Elin Ryösä; Hans Annersten; Kyösti Heinänen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; olivine; iron ore pellets; blast furnace; reduction; alkali; coating; slag formation; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : The present work focuses on mineral reactions and slag formation of LKAB olivine iron ore pellets (MPBO) subjected to reducing conditions in the LKAB experimental blast furnace (EBF). The emphasis is on olivine reactions with surrounding iron oxides. Many factors influence the olivine behaviour. READ MORE
