  1. 1. Rainflow Analysis of Switching Markov Loads

    Author : Pär Johannesson; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; actuarial mathematics; programming; operations research; Statistics; rainflow matrix; fatigue; vehicle load; hidden Markov model; random load; Markov model; Switching process; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Abstract : Rainflow cycles are often used in fatigue analysis of materials for describing the variability of applied loads. Therefore, an important characteristic of a random load process is the intensity of rainflow cycles, also called the expected rainflow matrix (RFM), which can be used for evaluation of the fatigue life. 2. 2. Ice load prediction for design of ice-going ships for inland waterways

    Author : Meng Zhang; Karl Garme; Magnus Burman; Malin Åkermo; Pentti Kujala; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inland waterway ship; ice load; ice conditions; ice properties; FSICR; probabilistic method; ice-hull interaction; numerical model; structural response; finite element analysis; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : With increasing interest in utilizing the inland waterways (IWW) in European countries, the design of IWW vessels gains attention both from a transport efficiency and an emission control point of view. However, unlike in western and central European countries, in Nordic countries, e.g. READ MORE

  3. 3. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing

    Author : Stavros Tzilis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fault Tolerance; Algorithms; Runtime Management; Multiprocessors; Performance; Adaptive Systems; Load Balancing; Energy Efficiency;

    Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 4. 4. Statistical analysis and simulation methods related to load-sharing models

    Author : Patrik Rydén; Yuri Belyaev; Uwe Jensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Non-parametric and parametric estimation; load-sharing models; asymptotic distribution; martingale; resampling; life testing; reliability;

    Abstract : We consider the problem of estimating the reliability of bundles constructed of several fibres, given a particular kind of censored data. The bundles consist of several fibres which have their own independent identically dis-tributed failure stresses (i.e.the forces that destroy the fibres). READ MORE

  5. 5. Numerical methods for load and response prediction for use in acoustic fatigue

    Author : Johan Nilsson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustic fatigue; Sonic fatigue; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Large Eddy Simulation; Finite Element Method; Random response analysis; Separated flow; High Re; Backward-facing step; Fence flow; Aircraft; Proper Orthogonal Decomposition; Acoustic fatigue; Sonic fatigue; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Large Eddy Simulation; Finite Element Method; Random response analysis; Separated flow; High Re; Backward-facing step; Fence flow; Aircraft; Proper Orthogonal Decomposition;

    Abstract : Acoustic fatigue can occur in structural elements of an aircraft exposed to very high sound pressures. To deal with acoustic fatigue, mainly empirical methods have been applied and often late in the design phase. Current design guidelines have three main limitations. First, they do not say anything about the load intensities. READ MORE
