  1. 1. Electronic Structure Calculations of Point Defects in Semiconductors

    Author : Andreas Höglund; Susanne Mirbt; Alison Mainwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; electronic structure calculations; point defects; semiconductor; formation energy; equilibrium solubility limit; thermodynamic equilibrium concentration; transfer levels; negative-U; 110 surface; diffusion; activation energy; solar cells; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis point defects in semiconductors are studied by electronic structure calculations. Results are presented for the stability and equilibrium concentrations of native defects in GaP, InP, InAs, and InSb, for the entire range of doping conditions and stoichiometry. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dissipative formation of galaxies in hierarchical cosmology

    Author : John Hultman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; merical methods; hydrodynamics; galaxies: formation; galaxies: elliptical; galaxies: structure; star formation; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Theoretical Astrophysics; teoretisk astrofysik;

    Abstract : A description and detailed tests of a numerical code for simulations of galaxy formation is presented. The dynamics is followed with fully adaptive and Lagrangian Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) combined with a gravitational tree method. The severe numerical problem of sub-resolution clustering is solved by merging of gas particles. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Dynamics of Star Cluster Formation

    Author : Juan Pablo Farias Osses; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Star Cluster Formation; Star Formation; N-body simulations; Astronomy Astrophysics;

    Abstract : How do star clusters form? We care, since these are the birth sites of most stars, perhaps including our own Sun. There are a great variety of different theoretical models of cluster formation and our main goal in this thesis is to examine the implications of these for the dynamical evolution of a cluster's stellar population, including the ejected stars. 4. 4. Molecular studies of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper : Exploration of ultra-sensitive techniques for the inhibiting effect of self assembled monolayers, and the effect of gamma radiation

    Author : Saman Hosseinpour; Christofer Leygraf; Franz Geiger; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Corrosion; copper; self assembled monolayer; sum frequency spectroscopy; qcm; gamma radiation;

    Abstract : Atmospheric corrosion indoors is of great practical importance for the degradation of metals, for example in electronics, military equipment, and cultural heritage items. It involves a wide range of chemical, electrochemical, and physical processes occurring in gas, liquid, and solid phases, and at the interfaces between them. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterisation of CtBP : A Co-Repressor of Transcription that Interacts with the Adenovirus E1A Protein

    Author : Anders Sundqvist; Anthony Wright; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; CtBP; HDAC; adenovirus; E1A; gene expression; repression; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : In this study, adenovirus E1A has been used to target and analyse the transcriptional function of the cellular C-terminal Binding Protein (CtBP).Transcription is a complex biochemical process that represents a major regulatory step in gene expression. READ MORE
