  1. 1. Manufacture of long-fibre reinforced ceramics by reaction bonding

    Author : Jesper Brandt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; weaves; slurry infiltration; fibre; aluminium oxide; reaction bonding; ceramic matrix composite; mullite; silicon nitride; alumina; CMC;

    Abstract : For several decades ceramic matrix composites has been of interest to be used as hot parts in certain high-performance gas turbine aero engines. In general, ceramic materials resist higher temperatures than superalloys. READ MORE

  2. 2. The silicon nitride reaction-bonding process

    Author : Bingqiang Lei; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material Mechanics; Materialmekanik;

    Abstract : The so called Reaction-Bonded Silicon Nitride (RBSN) materials are usually produced through the chemical reaction of silicon powder compacts in a nitriding atmosphere. This nitriding reaction is strongly exothermic and much heat is generated, which may cause to overheating, even melting of the powder compacts so to hinder the further reaction due to the reduction of specific area of the powder compacts, especially when the nitridation involves a rather large mass of silicon. 3. 3. The RDGT - Integration of Micromechanics and Electronics by Plasma Assisted Wafer Bonding

    Author : Anke Sanz-Velasco; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bonding; displacement measurement; oxygen plasma; low temperature wafer bonding; capacitive detection; high resolution; CMOS compatibility; MOSFET; low impedance sensing; resonant gate transistor;

    Abstract : A high-resolution capacitive sensing technique is presented in this thesis: the Resonant Double Gate Transistor (RDGT). The major advantage of the RDGT compared to "pure" capacitive sensing techniques is its low output impedance because of the direct capacitance to current conversion of the transistor. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thiol-ene and Thiol-ene-epoxy Based Polymers for Biomedical Microdevices

    Author : Alexander Vastesson; Tommy Haraldsson; Wouter van der Wijngaart; Christopher N. Bowman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomedical microdevices; lab-on-a-chip; off-stoichiometry thiol-ene; OSTE; thiol-ene-epoxy; hybrid polymer networks; reaction injection molding; photostructuring; surface modification; bonding; liquid encapsulation; biocompatibility; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Within healthcare there is a market pull for biomedical devices that can rapidly perform laboratory processes, such as diagnostic testing, in a hand-held format. For this reason, biomedical devices must become smaller, more sophisticated, and easier to use for a reasonable cost. READ MORE

  5. 5. Water-Metal Surfaces : Insights from core-level spectroscopy and density functional theory

    Author : Theanne Schiros; Anders Nilsson; John Hemminger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : water; hydroxyl; metal; surfaces; x-ray spectroscopy; density functional theory; bonding; fuel cell; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Computational methods are combined with synchrotron-based techniques to analyze the structure and bonding of water and water plus hydroxyl at metal surfaces under UHV and at near-ambient conditions. Water-metal interaction plays a crucial role in a multitude of cosmic, atmospheric and biological phenomena as well as heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry and corrosion. READ MORE
