  1. 1. Shadows of Cavernous Shades: Charting the Chiaroscuro of Realistic Computing

    Author : Erik Persson; Data Vetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; history of computing; philosophy of technology; philosophy of computing; realistic computing; virtual reality; object-orientation; business objects; software components; client server database access architectures; Computer science; numerical analysis; systems; control; Datalogi; numerisk analys; system; kontroll;

    Abstract : During the early 1990s, a novel style of programming often referred to as component-oriented programming quickly grew popular as the state-of-the-art in graphical user interface and client/server development on Windows-based personal computers, largely in competition with object-oriented programming, a partly similar, partly different programming paradigm, with which component-orientation is often compared, combined, and confused. Also during the 1990s, the world-wide web spread its arachnoid gossamer over the globe with deep-ranging ramifications for software component technology. READ MORE

  2. 2. Methodology and Infrastructure for Statistical Computing in Genomics : Applications for Ancient DNA

    Author : Kristiina Ausmees; Carl Nettelblad; Mattias Jakobsson; Flora Jay; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistical computing; genotype imputation; ancient DNA; deep learning; dimensionality reduction; genetic clustering; distributed computing; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the development and evaluation of computational methods for analysis of genetic data. A particular focus is on ancient DNA recovered from archaeological finds, the analysis of which has contributed to novel insights into human evolutionary and demographic history, while also introducing new challenges and the demand for specialized methods. Abstract : Cloud Computing, with its globally-accessible nature and virtually unlimited scalability, has revolutionized our daily lives since its widespread adoption in the early 2000s. It allows us to access our documents anywhere, keep in touch with friends, back up photos, and even remotely control our appliances. READ MORE

  4. 4. Realistic prospect for continuous variable quantum computing in circuit-QED

    Author : Ingrid Strandberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Continuous variable quantum computing; quantum supremacy; quantum state engineering; negative Wigner function; quantum advantage;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is an extended introduction to the appended papers, which pertain to finding quantum states that are useful for continuous variable quantum computing. The useful states are characterized by a negative Wigner function. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phase space methods for computing creeping rays

    Author : Mohammad Motamed; Olof Runborg; Sverker Holmgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Creeping Rays; Phase Space Methods; High Frequency Wave Scattering Problems; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the numerical simulation of creeping rays and their contribution to high frequency scattering problems. Creeping rays are a type of diffracted rays which are generated at the shadow line of the scatterer and propagate along geodesic paths on the scatterer surface. READ MORE
