  1. 1. A behavioural investigation into Eristalis tenax : Pursuit, approach estimation, locomotor activity and rearing

    Author : Malin Thyselius; Karin Nordström; Anna Rostedt Punga; Yuri Ogawa; Emily Baird; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eristalis tenax; Insect rearing; Hoverflies; Pollinators; Circadian rhythm; Target detection; Motion vision; Pursuit; LAMS; Flight arena;

    Abstract : Hoverflies are suggested to be the 2nd most important pollinator group after bees and bumblebees, and with the changing climate and dwindling numbers of pollinators it might never have been more important understanding our pollinators. Given the hoverflies’ small brains, beautiful aerial acrobatics, good temporal resolution, but limited spatial resolution, these flies make interesting study animals for flight behaviour and vision research. 2. 2. Sensory quality of pork : Influences of rearing system, feed, genotype, and sex

    Author : Anette Jonsäll; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Domestic sciences; Sensory analysis; rearing system; genotype; sex; feed; pig; food quality; taste; muscle; Hushållsvetenskap; Domestic science and nutrition; Hushålls- och kostvetenskap;

    Abstract : Hampshire crosses of different genotype and sex were used to investigate the effects of rearing system, feed and handling on sensory quality, consumer preference and cooking loss. A selected and trained panel carried out descriptive tests. Two preference tests were carrieout by, in each case, 200 consumers. READ MORE

  3. 3. The significance of blood vessels in organogenesis and cadherins in exploratory behaviour

    Author : Josefina Edsbagge; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : pancreas; sphingosine-1-phosphate; endothelium; epithelial-to-mesenchymal interactions; ; Cre loxP-system; cadherins; rearing;

    Abstract : Organogenesis of epithelial organs requires interaction between epithelial andmesenchymal tissues. In pancreas development three different mesenchymal derivedstructures, the notochord, the endothelial cells and the splanchnic mesenchyme inducespecification, growth and further differentiation of the pancreatic epithelium. 5. 5. Across Borders : A Histological and Physiological Study of the Subthalamic Nucleus in Reward and Movement

    Author : Nadine Schweizer; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Dai Stephens; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; subthalamic nucleus; STN; basal ganglia; locomotion; hyperlocomotion; rearing; ventral tegmental area; VTA; dopamine; glutamate; vesicular glutamate transporter 2; Vglut2; Parkinson s disease; deep brain stimulation; subpopulation; conditional knock-out; optogenetic; co-expression; in situ hybridization; self-administration; reward behavior; mouse genetics;

    Abstract : The basal ganglia are the key circuitry controlling movement and reward behavior. Both locomotion and reward-related behavior are also modified by dopaminergic input from the substantia nigra and the ventral tegmental area (VTA). READ MORE
