  1. 1. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and inflammatory bone modeling

    Author : Ali Kassem; Ulf Lerner; Pernilla Lundberg; Pedro Souza; Timothy Arnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toll-like receptor; osteoclast; osteoblast; bone resorption; bone formation; P. gingivalis; S. aureus; flagellin.;

    Abstract : Patients with inflammatory or infectious conditions such as periodontitis, peri-implantitis, osteomyelitis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic arthritis and loosened joint prosthesis display varying severity of destruction in the adjacent bone tissue. Bone loss in inflammatory diseases is considered a consequence of cytokine induced RANKL and subsequent enhanced osteoclast formation. READ MORE

    Abstract : Proteins are remarkable molecules with diverse and specialized functions playing essential roles in most biological processes. One such function is protecting us from diseases by the action of antibodies in our immune system that can recognize and mediate the destruction of invading pathogens by binding to foreign epitopes found on non-self proteins. 3. 3. Processing of TNF-receptors to soluble receptor forms in myeloid cells

    Author : Flemming Björnberg; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammation cytokine TNF receptor; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine which binds to two cell surface receptors, TNF-R55 and TNF-R75. The receptors undergo proteolytic cleavage and release a fragment (soluble TNF-receptors or TNF-Binding Protein), TNF-R55-BP and TNF-R75-BP. Soluble TNF-receptors are able to bind and inactivate TNF. 4. 4. Discovery of Novel Receptors for Lipid Mediators - a study leading to the identification of receptors involved in metabolism and the immune system

    Author : Niclas Nilsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk biologi; Clinical biology; Thiazolidinedione; SCFA; FFA; FFA2R; FFA1R; GPR43; GPR41; GPR40; BLT2; GPCR; Orphan; Receptor;

    Abstract : Intercellular communication is of crucial importance in regulating physiology and G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) have evolved as an important mechanism in this process. Of the approximately 800 human GPCRs, about 160 are still considered to be “orphan” receptors for which an endogenous ligand remains to be identified. READ MORE

  5. 5. Expression and Regulation of P2 Receptors in Human Circulation

    Author : Lingwei Wang; Sektion II; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Western blotting; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; vascular remodeling; systemic lupus erythematosus; smooth muscle cell; shear stress; real-time PCR; platelets; P2 receptor; gene expression; erythrocyte; ATP release; endothelium;

    Abstract : P2 receptors mediate the actions of the extracellular nucleotides ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP regulating several physiological responses including cardiac function, vascular tone, smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation, platelet aggregation, and the release of endothelial factors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mRNA and protein expression of P2 receptors in human SMCs, endothelial cells (ECs), erythrocytes and platelets, the regulation of P2 receptors under shear stress in human vessels, the changes of platelet P2 receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the regulation of plasma ATP levels by P2 receptor on erythrocytes.
