  1. 1. Individual Producer Responsibility in the WEEE Directive - From Theory to Practice?

    Author : Chris van Rossem; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Individual Producer Responsibility IPR ; Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment WEEE ; Extended Producer Responsibility EPR ;

    Abstract : In the current discourse over what constitutes successful Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy implementation, there is an on-going debate over the ability of programme design to include an appropriate incentive mechanism to stimulate producers to improve the design of their products for reduced life cycle impacts, and especially the impacts and costs from the end-of-life management. At the centre of the debate is the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) which has the explicit goal to encourage the design and production of electrical and electronic products which facilitate dismantling, recovery and in particular the reuse and recycling of WEEE. 2. 2. Caldicellulosiruptor Saccharolyticus: an Ideal Hydrogen Producer?

    Author : Sudhanshu Pawar; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : Caldicellulosiruptor owensensis; Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus; hydrogen; volumetric hydrogen productivity; biofilm; osmotolerance; wheat straw hydrolysate; evolutionary engineering; CSTR; UA reactor and uracil auxotrophy;

    Abstract : Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus is an extremely thermophilic, strictly anaerobic, Gram-positive and cellulolytic microorganism with a natural ability to produce hydrogen (H2) at nearly theoretical maximum yield, i.e. 4 mol/ mol of glucose. READ MORE

  3. 3. Extended Producer Responsibility as a Driver for Design Change - Utopia or Reality?

    Author : Naoko Tojo; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Extended producer responsibility; EEE; policy evaluation; intervention theory; effectiveness; implementation; individual responsibility; complex products; cars; anticipation of mandatory instruments; batteries; design change; Commercial and industrial economics; Industriell ekonomi;

    Abstract : Policies based upon Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) aim to reduce the environmental impacts of products across their entire life cycle. The intent is to induce design changes in products and thus reduce impacts at source. This, by provision of incentives to producers through an extension of responsibility. READ MORE

  4. 4. Making Sense of Extended Producer Responsibility: Towards a framework for policy transfer

    Author : Panate Manomaivibool; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Extended producer responsibility EPR ; Waste electrical and electronic equipment WEEE ; End-of-life vehicle ELV ; Policy transfer; Programme evaluation; Product policy; Waste management; Recycling;

    Abstract : Policy transfer of complex interventions often falls into the trap of uninformed, incomplete, and/or inappropriate transfer because the interventions are insufficiently identified with some of their perceived core components. This is no exception in the interspatial learning about extended producer responsibility (EPR) programmes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Extended Producer Responsibility for Closing Material Loops: Lessons from energy-efficient lighting products

    Author : Jessika Luth Richter; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Extended Producer Responsibility; recycling; fluorescent lighting; waste management; Policy Evaluation; LEDs; WEEE Directive;

    Abstract : The transition to a low-carbon economy requires enabling technologies including energy-efficient lighting products. It is increasingly recognized that a sustainable economy is not only low-carbon and energy efficient, but also resource efficient. READ MORE
