  1. 1. Low-Rank Distributed Control with Application to Wind Energy

    Author : Daria Madjidian; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses three different topics in wind power plant operation. Most of the research is focused on controlling a wind farm that is required to meet a power set-point. In this mode of operation, the wind turbines are able to vary their power production as long as the total power demand is met. READ MORE

  2. 2. The relationship between personality and social dominance in the domestic fowl – a critical perspective

    Author : Anna Favati; Olof Leimar; Hanne Løvlie; Andrew Sih; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aggression; behavioural syndromes; chicken; Gallus gallus domesticus; intra-sexual selection; resource holding potential; social hierarchy; social rank; etologi; Ethology;

    Abstract : Social dominance relationships are formed within numerous animal species and reduce costly fights over resources. Dominant individuals often enjoy greater access to important resources such as food and mating partners, and are generally more aggressive, bold, active and explorative compared to subdominant individuals. 3. 3. Structure-Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Optimal Control

    Author : Isak Nielsen; Daniel Axehill; Anders Hansson; Eric Kerrigan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical Optimal Control; Model Predictive Control; Riccati Recursion; Parallel Algorithms; Low-Rank Modifications; Parametric Programming; Optimization; Explicit MPC; Moving Horizon Estimation; Partial Condensing;

    Abstract : Numerical algorithms for efficiently solving optimal control problems are important for commonly used advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC), but can also be useful for advanced estimation techniques, such as moving horizon estimation (MHE). In MPC, the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line, and in MHE the estimated states are obtained by solving an optimization problem that often can be formulated as a CFTOC problem. 4. 4. Development and testing of an m-Health platform to reduce post-operative penetrative sex in recipients of voluntary medical male circumcision

    Author : Yoesrie Toefy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: The widespread roll-out of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) has been accompanied by reports of VMMC recipients, particularly men who are married or cohabiting, resuming sexual intercourse before the recommended healing period of six weeks. This behaviour carries an increased risk of transmission of STIs and HIV, particularly for the female partner. READ MORE

  5. 5. Job Loss: Consequences and Labor Market Policy

    Author : Jonas Cederlöf; Peter Fredriksson; David Seim; Alexandre Mas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : Essay I: This paper takes a novel approach to estimating the effects of involuntary job loss on future earnings, wages and employment. Whereas the previous literature has relied on mass layoffs and plant closures for exogenous variation in displacement, I use the fact that who is laid off is often determined by a seniority rule, specifically the last-in-first-out (LIFO) rule.
