1. Enantio- and Regioselective Iridium-Catalyzed Hydrogenation of Olefins : From Development to Total Synthesis
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of cyclic olefins and allylic alcohols for the preparation of useful chiral intermediates with various substitution patterns. The strategy provides stereocontrol for both non-functionalized as well as functionalized substrates and aims to be implemented in the stereoselective preparation of chiral building blocks having more than one stereocenter. 2. Synthesis of O-linked Carbasugar Analogues of Galactofuranosides and N-linked Neodisaccharides
Abstract : In this thesis, carbohydrate mimicry is investigated through the syntheses of carbohydrate analogues and evaluation of their inhibitory effects on carbohydrate-processing enzymes. Galactofuranosides are interesting structures because they are common motifs in pathogenic microorganisms but not found in mammals. M. READ MORE

3. Synthetic analogs of sialyl Lewis x
Abstract : The sialyl Lewis x (SLex) tetrasaccharide is the smallest recognizable ligand for selectins. The selectins constitute a vital part of the inflammatory cascade for recruitment of leukocytes to a site of tissue damage or microbial infection. READ MORE

4. Synthetic studies of rigid tetracyclic oxanorbornanes. Regioselective reductive Heck arylation of a tetracyclic scaffold
Abstract : Rigid or conformationally restricted compounds are intresting from a pharmacological point of view since they do not have to pay the entropy penalty paid by more flexible molecules in binding to e.g. a protein. READ MORE

5. Regioselective Heck Coupling Reactions : Focus on Green Chemistry
Abstract : Carbon-carbon bond formation reactions are among the most important processes in chemistry, as they represent key steps in the synthesis of more complex molecules from simple precursors. This thesis describes mainly the development of novel regioselective applications of the mild and versatile palladium-catalyzed carbon-carbon coupling method, commonly known as the Heck reaction.
