1. ZnO Quantum Dots : Size Dependent Optical, Vibrational and Photoelectrochemical Properties
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to quantum dots of ZnO in the size regime 2.5-10 nm.The focus is directed towards their size dependent properties with specialemphasis on the optical, vibrational and photocatalytic properties. The particleswere synthesized by hydrolysis in alkaline zinc acetate solution. READ MORE

2. Spin splitting in open quantum dots and related systems
Abstract : This thesis addresses electron spin phenomena in semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots from a computational perspective. In the first paper (paper I) we have studied spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. READ MORE

3. Cathodoluminescence Studies of Quantum Structures and III-V nitrides
Abstract : Characterization of low-dimensional semiconductor structures is a challenging task. The thesis is based on experiments, using cathodoluminescence (CL) as a tool for characterization. The high spatial resolution and the possibility of spectroscopy of small structures make CL one of the most powerful techniques for these types of investigations. READ MORE

4. The Study of II-VI Semiconductor Nanocrystals Sensitized Solar Cells
Abstract : Semiconductor nanocrystals, also referred to as quantum dots (QDs), have been the focus of great scientific and technological efforts in solar cells, as a result of their advantages of low-cost, photostability, high molar extinction coefficients and size-dependent optical properties. Due to the multi-electron generation effect, the theoretically maximum efficiency of quantum dots-sensitized solar cells (QDSCs) is as high as 44%, which is much higher than that of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). 5. Development of Nanoparticle Sensitized Solar Cells
Abstract : In this thesis, I have been working with the development of nanoparticle sensitized solar cells. In the subarea of quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs), I have investigated type-II quantum dots (QDs), quantum rods (QRs) and alloy QDs, and developed novel redox couples as electrolytes.
