6. Electrical and Optical Properties of AlGaAs/GaAs Aperiodic Superlattices and Resonant Tunneling Diodes. Theory, Design and Applications
Abstract : The objective of the work presented in this thesis is to study quantum transport and optical properties of aperiodic superlattices and resonant tunneling diodes using III-V semiconductor heterostructures grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The study follows a procedure of theoretical modeling, computer-aided design and simulation, sample growth, and measurements. READ MORE

7. Properties of small Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 intrinsic Josephson junctions: confinement, flux-flow and resonant phenomena
Abstract : In this thesis, intrinsic Josephson junctions, naturally formed in the strongly anisotropic high-temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi-2212), are studied experimentally. For this purpose, small mesa structures are fabricated on the surface of single crystals using micro- and nano-fabrication tools, focused ion beam is used to reduce the area of the mesa-structures down to ≈ 1 × 1 μm2. 8. Intrinsic tunneling spectroscopic investigations of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x superconductors : The fluxon lattice, resonant phenomena,flux-flow and current doping
Abstract : In this thesis, the tunneling between individual atomic layers in structures of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x based high-temperature superconductors are experimentally studied employing the intrinsic Josephson effect. A special attention is paid on the fabrication of small mesa structures using micro and nanofabrication techniques. READ MORE

9. Electron Tunneling and Field-Effect Devices in mm-Wave Circuits
Abstract : Short high-frequency electromagnetic pulses, also referred to as wavelets, are considered for use in various short-range impulse based ultra-wideband applications, such as communication, imaging, radar, spectroscopy, and localization. This thesis investigates field-effect and tunneling based semiconductor devices and their operation in millimeter-wave (mm-wave) impulse transceivers. READ MORE

10. Vertical III-V Semiconductor Devices
Abstract : This thesis is based on three projects that deal with vertical III-V semiconductor devices. The work spans over basic research as well as more applied aspects of III-V semiconductor technology. All projects have in common that they rely on advanced epitaxial growth to form the starting material for device fabrication. READ MORE
