1. Care of the newborn infant during maternal-infant separation
Abstract : The overall aim of the thesis was to describe care of the newborn infant immediately after birth, during maternal-infant separation; the father as primary caregiver and the mother’s experiences of separation and later reunion with the infant, in order to enhance development of care for the newborn infant during maternal-infant separation. In study I, II and III a phenomenological approach was used to gain access to mothers’ and fathers’ lived experiences (I, III) and lifeworld (II). READ MORE

2. Deterministic Lateral Displacement for Cell Separation
Abstract : In the fields of medicine and biology, the separation of particles is a central step in many preparative and analytical processes. Deterministic Lateral Displacement (DLD) has been a promising technique in the field of microfluidic particle and cell sorting, specifically for label-free separation with several applications of sorting by size, morphology, and deformation reported in the literature over the last decade. 3. Point of care microfluidic tool development for resource limited settings
Abstract : The development of point of care diagnostics using recent advances in microfluidics have the potential to transform health care in several ways, especially in resource limited settings with limited access to advanced health care infrastructure. However, translating a point of care device to reality is often a challenging task because of the complexities involved in integrating a number of diverse engineering concepts into an easy to use, accurate and portable device. 4. Resource mobilisation for energy system transformation
Abstract : A transition to a sustainable path of development will require that fossil fuels are replaced with renewable energy sources and involve, therefore, a large-scale transformation of the energy system. In the EU, offshore wind power and biorefineries have the potential to play an important role in this transformation. READ MORE

5. Microfluidics Separation and Analysis of Biological Particles
Abstract : In the last decade, powerful communication and information technology in the form of the mobile phone has been put into the hands of more than 50% of the global population. In stark contrast, a lack of access to medical diagnostic technology with which to diagnose both communicable and non-communicable diseases will mean that many of these people will die of easily treatable conditions.
