  1. 1. Behind the Charts - Exploring Conditions for High Level Emergency Response Management in a Complex Environment

    Author : Christian Uhr; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; krishantering; ledning; trust; social networkanalysis; complex adaptive systems; emergency response management; crisis management; emergency management; disaster management; respons; responssystem; ledningssystem; nätverk; förtroende;

    Abstract : The thesis uses, as a starting point for a discussion of emergency response management, the problem of gradual coordinated adaptation of management functions in relation to an event and its dynamics. Empirical observations and analyses carried out in the research project show that important problemsolving processes not included in, and sometimes diverging from, planning and preparations frequently occur. 2. 2. Shear in Concrete Structural Elements Subjected to Dynamic Loads

    Author : Johan Magnusson; Anders Ansell; Mikael Hallgren; Richard Malm; Jaap Weerheijm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic load; initial response; shear failure; shear capacity; numerical simulations; bond; shear span; support reactions; Dynamisk last; initial respons; skjuvbrott; skjuvkapacitet; numeriska simuleringar; förankring; skjuvspännvidd; upplagsreaktioner; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Concrete structural elements subjected to severe dynamic loads such as explosions at close range may cause shear failures. In the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 two concrete columns on the ground level were reported to have failed in shear. READ MORE

  3. 3. Coordination of two different genomes in response to light and stress

    Author : Louise Norén Lindbäck; Åsa Strand; Antony Dodd; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; chloroplast; cellular communication; tetrapyrrole; circadian clock; oxidative stress; light signalling; gene regulation; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : About 1.5 billion years ago, a photosynthetic bacteria was engulfed by a eukaryotic cell which initiated a symbiotic relationship and the evolution of the chloroplast as we know it today. The chloroplast has retained its own genome encoding for a number of proteins required for the function of the chloroplast. READ MORE

  4. 4. Psychophysiological and Performance Aspects on Motion Sickness

    Author : Joakim Dahlman; Torbjörn Falkmer; Torbjörn Ledin; John Golding; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Motion sickness is not an illness, but rather a natural autonomic response to an unfamiliar or specific stimulus. The bodily responses to motion sickness are highly individual and contextually dependent, making them difficult to predict. The initial autonomic responses are similar to the ones demonstrated when under stress. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Non-Stationary perspective on the European and Swedish Business Cycle

    Author : Louise Holm; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Business cycles; business cycle dating; non-parametric smoothing; non-stationarity; recession prediction; interest rate spread; binary respons models; Business and economics; Ekonomi; Humanities and Social sciences; Humaniora-samhällsvetenskap; Business cycles; business cycle dating; non-parametric smoothing; non-stationarity; recession prediction; interest rate spread; binary response models.;

    Abstract : Business cycles, the ups and downs observed somewhat simultaneously in numerous macroeconomic variables in an economy and often measured using real GDP, are important and, despite much economic research, still incom- pletely understood. Dating the business cycle has always been of interest in macroeconomic research. READ MORE
