  1. 1. Diets of European children, with focus on BMI, well-being, and families The IDEFICS/I.Family cohort

    Author : Louise Arvidsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; body mass index; child; diet; feeding practices; intervention; mutans streptococci; parents; restriction; well-being;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate children’s diet, BMI z-score, and parental feeding practices (PFPs), in relation to mutans streptococci (MS) count, psychosocial well-being and children’s BMI trajectory, as well as exploring the effect of the intervention in the IDEFICS (Identification and prevention of dietary- and lifestyle-induced health effects in children and infants) study on diets of families five years after the intervention. About 16,000 children from eight European countries participated in the IDEFICS study in 2007/2008 (referred to as index children). READ MORE

  2. 2. Transcriptional gene signatures : passing the restriction point for routine clinical implementation

    Author : Arian Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Uncontrolled cell growth and cell division are central to the process of tumorigenesis and a number of gene expression signatures have been developed based on genes that are involved in the cell cycle. Notably, gene expression signatures are used extensively in breast cancer research to examine the disease at a molecular level to describe tumour progression, treatment response and patients’ survival. 3. 3. Cell cycle control in G1 : restriction points for growth factors and anchorage dependence

    Author : Peter Zickert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : cell cycle; cyclin E; growth control; growth factor; restriction point; ECM; anchorage;

    Abstract : Background: The eukaryotic cell cycle consists of four well-defined phases. During the S phase DNA is replicated and during the M phase the chromosomes are segregated to daughter cells. The time gap between completion of M phase and entry into S phase is called G1. The time gap between S phase and mitosis is called G2. READ MORE

  4. 4. Proteostasis and Aging in Saccharomyces cerevisiae - The role of a Peroxiredoxin

    Author : Sarah Hanzén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aging; Caloric restriction; Oxidative stress; Peroxiredoxins; Proteostasis; Protein aggregates; Ubiquitin-proteasome system;

    Abstract : Aging is characterized by a progressive decline in physiological functions that limits biological processes, increases the risk of disease, and ultimately leads to death. At the cellular level, aging is associated with accumulation of damaged components, including proteins, indicating that protein homeostasis (or proteostasis) fails to maintain the integrity and functionality of the proteome as cells age. 5. 5. The informational value and usefulness of serum retinoid measurements. Studies on biological variation, including infancy and pregnancy, and influence of fasting, antiepileptic drugs and ethanol

    Author : Maria Berggren Söderlund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; vitamin A deficiency; teratogenicity; ethanol; antiepileptic drugs; caloric restriction; infant; pregnant; biological variation; 13-cis retinoic acid; all-trans retinoic acid; Vitamin A; retinol;

    Abstract : The aims of these studies were to evaluate retinoid measurements, more specifically the performance of all-trans and 13-cis retinoic acids methods in clinical experimental settings and to evaluate the informational value of these measurements in relation to S-Retinol. Biological and analytical variations for retinoids were evaluated for healthy subjects. READ MORE
