  1. 1. Interacting particles and droplets at low Reynolds numbers

    Author : Lisa Prahl; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gases; VOS; VOF; Multiphase flow; Interaction; Particles; Droplets; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Gaser; fluiddynamik; plasma;

    Abstract : The overall purpose with this work is to study the flow past particles and droplets using numerical simulations. Especially the interaction among particles and droplets have been a main objective as the results are to be used in order to improve already existing spray models. READ MORE

  2. 2. Study of adverse-pressure-gradient effects on a flat-plate boundary layer at high Reynolds numbers

    Author : Ramón Pozuelo; Ricardo Vinuesa; Philipp Schlatter; Ivette Rodriguez; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbulence; simulations; turbulent boundary layers; adverse pressure gradients.; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Turbulent boundary layers are present in many aspects of life, from the weather and wind currents to transportation, production of energy or mixing processes. Understanding turbulent motions can allow for an improvement and development of technical devices, techniques or diagnosis of phenomena where a fluid flow is in the turbulent regime. READ MORE

  3. 3. Boundary layers over wing sections

    Author : Prabal Negi; Dan Henningson; Spencer Sherwin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The understanding of developing boundary layers over wings is an important topic from the perspective of industrial applications. An increased understanding would be consequential not only for achieving higher fuel efficiency but also in the design of aircraft control strategies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical and modelling aspects of large-eddy and hybrid simulations of turbulent flows

    Author : Matteo Montecchia; Arne V. Johansson; Gert Brethouwer; Stefan Wallin; Dominic Von Terzi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulence; wall-bounded flows; large-eddy simulation; SGS modelling; OpenFOAM; hybrid RANS-LES; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : In this study, the explicit algebraic sub-grid scale (SGS) model (EAM) has been extensively validated in wall-resolved large-eddy simulations (LES) of wall-bounded turbulent flows at different Reynolds numbers and a wide range of resolutions. Compared to eddy-viscosity based models, the formulation of the EAM is more consistent with the physics and allows to accurately capture SGS anisotropy,which is relevant especially close to walls. 5. 5. Thermal and Hydraulic Performance of Enhanced Rectangular Tubes for Compact Heat Exchangers

    Author : Carl-Olof Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LDV; heat exchanger; enhanced heat transfer; radiator; smoke visualization; pressure drop; secondary flow;

    Abstract : The thermal and hydraulic performance of rib-roughened, dimpled and offset strip fin tubes has been investigated experimentally. Results from measurements on commercially manufactured tubes have shown that rib-roughened tubes have best potential for heat transfer enhancement with moderate pressure drop increase. READ MORE
