  1. 1. Non-protein-coding RNA : Transcription and regulation of ribosomal RNA

    Author : Stefanie Böhm; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Brian McStay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ribosomal RNA; non-coding RNA; ribosomal genes; rDNA gene; B-WICH; chromatin remodelling; histone modification; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Cell growth and proliferation are processes in the cell that must be tightly regulated. Transcription of ribosomal RNA and ribosomal biogenesis are directly linked to cell growth and proliferation, since the ribosomal RNA encodes for the majority of transcription in a cell and ribosomal biogenesis influences directly the number of proteins that are synthesized. 2. 2. Chromatin remodelling of ribosomal genes - be bewitched by B-WICH

    Author : Anna Vintermist; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Ross D. Hannan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chromatin remodelling; ribosomal genes; rDNA; transcription; RNA polymerase I transcription; RNA polymerase III transcription; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Transcription of the ribosomal genes accounts for the majority of transcription in the cell due to the constant high demand for ribosomes. The number of proteins synthesized correlates with an effective ribosomal biogenesis, which is regulated by cell growth and proliferation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gene regulation by chromatin remodelling complexes : SWI/SNF complex in mRNA processing and B-WICH complex in ribosomal gene expression

    Author : Antoni Gañez Zapater; Ann-Kristin Östlund-Farrants; Christopher W.J. Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chromatin remodelling; SWI SNF; Brg1; Brm; alternative splicing; cleavage and polyadenylation; B-WICH; WSTF; ribosomal genes; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this project is to investigate the roles of chromatin remodelling complexes in gene regulation. It is focused on two groups of chromatin complexes: the mammalian BRG1 and BRM SWI/SNF complexes and the ISWI-containing B-WICH complex.Study 1 investigates the role of SWI/SNF complexes in alternative splicing. 4. 4. Ribosomal Proteins in Diamond-Blackfan Anemia : Insights into Failure of Ribosome Function

    Author : Jitendra Badhai; Niklas Dahl; Anthony Wright; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diamond-Blackfan anemia; RPS19; Ribosomal proteins; Haploinsufficiency; cell cycle; Apoptosis; Erythropoiesis; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Clinical Genetics; klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a severe congenital anemia characterized by a defect in red blood cell production. The disease is associated with growth retardation, malformations, a predisposition for malignant disease and heterozygous mutations in either of the ribosomal protein (RP) genes RPS7, RPS17, RPS19, RPS24, RPL5, RPL11 and RPL35a. 5. 5. Regulation of RNA polymerase I and RNA polymerase III transcription by the chromatin remodelling complex B-WICH

    Author : Fatemeh Sadeghifar; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Magdalena Boguta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; B-WICH; Chromatin remodelling; ribosomal genes; transcription; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Ribosomal biogenesis is an important process which determines the rate of cell growth and is involved in cell response to proliferation, differentiation, cellular nutritional state and stress. The chromatin remodelling complex B-WICH composed of WSTF, SNF2h and NM1 is involved in transcription by the RNA pol I and RNA pol III. READ MORE
