  1. 1. Road profile statistics relevant for vehicle fatigue

    Author : Klas Bogsjö; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; operations research; Statistics; Matematik; Mathematics; model evaluation; vehicle fatigue; stochastic processes; road roughness; Road profiles; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Abstract : Road profiles are studied from a vehicle fatigue point of view. A wide range of roads have been measured: from smooth motorways to very rough gravel roads. It is observed that the road profiles consist of irregular sections, which makes the stationary Gaussian model unsuitable (Paper A). READ MORE

  2. 2. Automated Gravel Road Condition Assessment : A Case Study of Assessing Loose Gravel using Audio Data

    Author : Nausheen Saeed; Moudud Alam; Roger G. Nyberg; Diala Jomaa; Mirka Kans; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gravel roads; road maintenance; convolutional neural network CNN ; SVM; decision trees; ensemble bagged trees; GoogLeNet; ResNet50; ResNet18; sound analysis;

    Abstract : Gravel roads connect sparse populations and provide highways for agriculture and the transport of forest goods. Gravel roads are an economical choice where traffic volume is low. In Sweden, 21% of all public roads are state-owned gravel roads, covering over 20,200 km. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ride Comfort Optimization of Buses

    Author : Peter Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; structural vibrations; FEM; global optimization; ride comfort; roll control system; MBS; optimization; bus; road irregularities; sensitivity analysis;

    Abstract : As the design of buses is constantly improving, passengers are becoming more fastidious and the demand for a more comfortable travelling environment is constantly increasing. The main objective of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of how the design of buses affects the ride comfort characteristics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessment of crosswind performance of buses

    Author : Magnus Juhlin; Annika Stensson Trigell; Carsten Proppe; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; crosswind; buses; steering feel; directional stability; subjective; objective; aerodynamic load; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : When driving a vehicle on the road, the driver has to compensate continuously for small directional deviations from the desired course due to disturbances such as crosswinds, road irregularities and unintended driver inputs. These types of deviations have a tiring effect on the driver and should therefore be minimised. READ MORE

  5. 5. Training to become a master mariner in a simulator-based environment: The instructors’ contributions to professional learning

    Author : Charlott Sellberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Simulator-based training; Instruction and learning; Workplace studies; Interaction analysis; Maritime education and training;

    Abstract : In higher education programs that aim to prepare students for professional performance in safety-critical work activities, the introduction of simulators is seen as a fundamentally restructuring of the ways in which professional skills are developed and assessed. This, in turn, creates new challenges and possibilities for both teaching and learning a profession. READ MORE
