  1. 1. Distributed Road Grade Estimation for Heavy Duty Vehicles

    Author : Per Sahlholm; Karl Henrik Johansson; Emilio Frazzoli; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automotive; estimation; distributed systems; automatic control; heavy duty vehicles; road grade; road maps; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : An increasing need for goods and passenger transportation drives continued worldwide growth in traffic. As traffic increases environmental concerns, traffic safety, and cost efficiency become ever more important. Advancements in microelectronics open the possibility to address these issues through new advanced driver assistance systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Automated Gravel Road Condition Assessment : A Case Study of Assessing Loose Gravel using Audio Data

    Author : Nausheen Saeed; Moudud Alam; Roger G. Nyberg; Diala Jomaa; Mirka Kans; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gravel roads; road maintenance; convolutional neural network CNN ; SVM; decision trees; ensemble bagged trees; GoogLeNet; ResNet50; ResNet18; sound analysis;

    Abstract : Gravel roads connect sparse populations and provide highways for agriculture and the transport of forest goods. Gravel roads are an economical choice where traffic volume is low. In Sweden, 21% of all public roads are state-owned gravel roads, covering over 20,200 km. READ MORE

  3. 3. Iterative Road Grade Estimation for Heavy Duty Vehicle Control

    Author : Per Sahlholm; Karl Henrik Johansson; Jonas Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; road grade; estimation; heavy duty vehicle; Kalman filter; automatic control; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a new method for iterative road grade estimation based on sensors that are commonplace in modern heavy duty vehicles. Estimates from multiple passes of the same road segment are merged together to form a road grade map, that is improved each time the vehicle revisits an already traveled route. READ MORE

  4. 4. EstimatingChloride concentration in surface water and groundwater duet to deicing salt application

    Author : Eva-Lotta Thunqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : road; deicing salt; monitoring; chloride; catchment area; river basin; simulation; GIS; groundwater; surface water;

    Abstract : A road in operation along with its traffic can pose aserious pollutant threat to groundwater and surface water inits vicinity. Examples of pollutants are metals from thecorrosion of vehicles, rails and poles and the wear of roadsurfaces and tyres; hydrocarbons from the wear of roadsurfaces, tyres, exhausts, oils; sodium chloride from roadsalt; and hazardous goods discharged in accidents. 5. 5. The roads in-between : causeways and polyagentive networks at Ichmul and Yo'okop, Cochuah Region, Mexico

    Author : Johan Normark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; agency; architecture; becoming; Bergson; causeway; Cochuah; culture critique; Deleuze; difference; duration; event horizon; evolution; humanocentrism; Ichmul; ideology; in-between; index; materialtiy; Maya; Mexico; multiplicity; neo-materialism; network; polyagency; polyagent; posthumanism; practice; rhizome; road; sakbe; settlement archaeology; technoscience; temporality; Terminal Classic; virutality; Yo okop;

    Abstract : This dissertation has two aims: (1) To characterize and abandon the humanocentric archaeology that relies upon quasi-objects and to develop the polyagentive archaeology that relies upon actualizations of the virtual. (2) To exemplify the latter approach by studying how causeways (sakbeob) in the Maya area relate to temporality and materialtiy at, and around, the two neighbouring sites of Ichmul and Yo'okop in the Cochuah region of southeast Yucatan and west-central Quintana Roo in Mexico.
