1. Derivation, propagation and differentiation of human stem and progenitor cells
Abstract : Neuronal loss is a common feature of many neurological disorders, including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and traumatic brain injury. Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and hESC-derived neural progenitors (NPs) may provide a number of new ways for studying and treating diseases and injuries in the brain. READ MORE

2. Induction of the cytoskeletal protein radixin in the adult brain
Abstract : Abstract Neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPCs) proliferate throughout life in two regions of the brain, namely the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone of dentate gyrus in the hippocampus. In the adult SVZ, NSPCs give rise to neuroblasts that leave the SVZ for long distance migration along the rostral migratory stream (RMS), on their way to the olfactory bulb where they mature and are integrated in the neural network. 3. In vivo responses of neural progenitor cells to extracellular matrix signaling under pathological conditions
Abstract : The adult brain has an inherently low capacity for tissue regeneration, and neurons lost to disease or injuries are normally not replaced. This becomes especially apparent when stroke or brain trauma occurs. The discovery of neurogenesis and neural stem cells in the adult brain has opened up new avenues for treatment of the injured brain. READ MORE

4. Neurogenic and inflammatory response in the rodent brain following stroke
Abstract : Stroke and in this case cerebral infarction affects 20 million people each year and five million of them die. In Sweden 30-35000 people will be affected and one of three of them will be severely disabled. In addition, one of six will suffer a new stroke within six years. READ MORE

5. Assessment of precursor cell proliferation in normal and injured adult mammalian brains
Abstract : In the adult mammalian brain, new neurons are generated from neural stem cells (NSCs) which reside in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle wall and in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus (DG) in the hippocampus. The biology of persistent NSCs in the adult brain is poorly understood. READ MORE
