  1. 1. Seasonal Cycling of Mercury in the Antarctic Sea Ice Environment

    Author : Michelle Nerentorp; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antarktis; säsongsvariationer; vinter; Kvicksilver; havsis; snö; deposition;

    Abstract : Mercury is a globally distributed contaminant that exists in the atmosphere as a stable monoatomic gas. Having almost a year’s residence time in the air allows it to reach remote polar regions. Deposited airborne mercury can be transformed in the environment to the organic and bio-accumulating compound methyl mercury. READ MORE

  2. 2. Determining Chlorophyll-a Concentrations in Aquatic Systems with New Statistical Methods and Models

    Author : Peter Dimberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chlorophyll-a; statistical models; aquatic systems; lakes;

    Abstract : Chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration is an indicator of the trophic status and is extensively used as a measurement of the algal biomass which affects the level of eutrophication in aquatic systems. High concentration of chl-a may indicate high biomass of phytoplankton which can decrease the quality of water or eliminate important functional groups in the ecosystem. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sequential Data Learning, Scalable Models and Adversarial Regularization

    Author : Jin Huang; Ming Xiao; Geyong Min; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Time Series Prediction (TSP) has been used in mobile network traffic data analysis to produce predictive results for network planning and resource allocation. In the first part of this thesis, we propose a novel method of predicting mobile network traffic using neural networks based on conditional probability modeling between adjacent data windows in the time series sequence. 4. 4. Provenance, transport, and the fate of organic matter and sediments drained through Himalayan Rivers in Nepal

    Author : Rajendra Bhandari; Joyanto Routh; Subodh Sharma; Åsa Danielsson; Rajendra Joshi; Mead Allison; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Himalayan rivers; Biomarkers; Isotopes; OC flux; RUSLE; Himalayafloder; biomarkörer; isotoper; OC flux; RUSLE;

    Abstract : Despite its small area (ca. 595,000 km2), the Himalayan region transfers disproportionally high amounts of sediments and organic matter (OM) through a network of rivers into the oceanic sink. READ MORE

  5. 5. Soil and stream water chemistry in a boreal catchment - interactions, influences of dissolved organic matter and effects of wood ash application

    Author : Sara H Norström; Ulla Lundström; Dan Bylund; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Boreal forest; catchment studies; dissolved organic carbon; soil solution; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Two small bordering catchments in Bispgården, Central Sweden, wereinvestigated in regard to soil solution and stream water chemistry during the frostfree seasons of 2003-2007. Both catchments were drained by first order streams,Fanbergsbäcken and Gråbergsbäcken, and in Fanbergsbäckens catchment anextensive investigation of the soil and soil solution chemistry was conducted bylysimeter and centrifugation sampling.
