  1. 1. Site-Specific Recombination : Integrases, Accessory Factors and DNA Targets of P2-like Coliphages

    Author : Lina Sylwan; Elisabeth Haggård-Ljungquist; Margaret C. M. Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; Genetik; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : The temperate coliphage P2 and its family members integrate their genomes into the host Escherichia coli chromosome by a site-specific recombination mechanism to form lysogeny. Integration takes place between the complex phage attP site and the simple bacterial attB site and is catalyzed by the phage encoded integrase (Int). READ MORE

  2. 2. Safeguarding from surgical site infections : A mutual responsibility between the patient, caregiver and the perioperative healthcare leaders

    Author : Maria Qvistgaard; Sofia Almerud Österberg; Peller Gustafson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Operating Room; Perioperative care; Prevention; Qualitative content analysis; Reflective lifeworld research; Surgical site infection; Operating room nurse; Teamwork; Health and Caring Sciences; Hälsovetenskap;

    Abstract : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis is to describe and explore preventive measuresand risks for surgical site infections.Methods: Study I, a registry based and observational design study, includes 35 056cases analysed for risks for reoperation caused by periprosthetic joint infection afterelective total hip arthroplasty. 3. 3. Site-specific recombination of P2-like phages; possible tools for safe gene therapy : A focus on phage ΦD145

    Author : Sridhar Mandali; Elisabeth Haggård-Ljungquist; Richard Calendar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : bacteriophage; integrase; site-specific recombination; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : P2-like bacteriophages integrate their genome into the E. coli host cell by a site-specific recombination event upon lysogenization. The integrative recombination occurs between a specific sequence in the phage genome, attP, and a specific sequence in the host genome, attB, generating the host-phage junctions attL and attR. 4. 4. Sustainable Arsenic Mitigation A Strategy for Scaling-up Safe Water Access : A Strategy for Scaling-up Safe Water Access

    Author : Mohammed Hossain; Prosun Bhattacharya; Marinus Eric Donselaar; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bangladesh; drinking water; arsenic mitigation; local tubewell driller; sediment color tool; low-manganese; Intermediate Deep aquifer; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : In rural Bangladesh, the drinking water supply is mostly dependent upon manually operated hand pumped tubewells, installed by the local community. The presence of natural arsenic (As) in groundwater and its wide scale occurrence has drastically reduced the safe water access across the country and put tens of millions of people under health risk. 5. 5. The ecological significance of sexual reproduction in peat mosses (Sphagnum)

    Author : Sebastian Sundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Bryophyte; colonisation; disturbance; experiment; longevity; mire; safe site; spore; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Abstract : Peat mosses (Sphagnum) are widely distributed and are a major component of mire vegetation and peat throughout the boreal and temperate regions. Most boreal Sphagnum species regularly produce sporophytes, but the ecological role of the spore has been questioned. READ MORE
