  1. 1. Innovative seismic imaging solutions : From hardrock mineral exploration to quick-clay site characterization

    Author : Tatiana Pertuz; Alireza Malehmir; Cesare Comina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seismic methods; mineral exploration; quick-clays; seismic imaging; seismic characterization; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : Seismic methods are an efficient and powerful tool to explore the subsurface. It principally helps to gain information on the subsurface structure, bedrock topography, and the nature of the host rock. READ MORE

  2. 2. Seismic tomography : Inversion for P- and S-wave velocities

    Author : Ari Tryggvason; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Abstract : Seismology is undoubtedly the most powerful method for determining the structure of the Earth below the deepest borehole. This thesis describes the, use of seismic signals from both man-made and earthquake sources to model seismic velocities within a volume of the Earth. READ MORE

  3. 3. Seismic tomography : Algorithms and applications

    Author : Zhengsheng Yao; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geophysics Specialized In Seismology; geofysik; med inriktning mot seismologi;

    Abstract : A preferred algorithm for seismic tomography needs to have capabilities including computational efficiency, minimal computer memory requirements, easy regularization and nonuniqueness analysis. In this thesis, regularised recursive least squares for seismic tomography is developed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Statistical Seismology Studies in Central America : b-value, seismic hazard and seismic quiescence

    Author : David Aníbal Monterroso Juárez; Ota Kulhánek; Stefan Wiemer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; b-value; seismic hazard; Monte Carlo; seismic quiescence; Central America; stress; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : The present thesis collects results of research applying theory and methods of statistical seismology to the seismicity of Central America, a region with a complex tectonic setting controlled by the interaction of four major plates, namely the Caribbean, Cocos, Nazca and North American plates.Three different earthquake catalogues were used for studies focused on stress in a tectonic volume, seismic hazard maps and seismicity patterns (precursors), covering the region 94ºW to 81ºW and 5ºN to 20ºN. 5. 5. Application of the Seismic Reflection Method in Mineral Exploration and Crustal Imaging : Contributions to Hardrock Seismic Imaging

    Author : Omid Ahmadi; Christopher Juhlin; Alireza Malehmir; Gilles Bellefleur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seismic reflection; Hardrock; Mineral exploration; Crustal imaging; Interpretation; Modeling; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : The seismic reflection method has been used extensively in mineral exploration and for imaging crustal structures within hardrock environments. In this research the seismic reflection method has been used and studied to address problems associated with hardrock settings. READ MORE
