1. Postoperative aspects of inguinal hernia surgery : pain and recurrences
Abstract : Approximately one in four men will have surgery for ingunial hernia in their lifetime. In Sweden, 16 000 procedures are performed each year. To investigate the possible link between handling of nerves and sensory disturbance, 97 groins in 92 patients were examined one year after inguinal hernia surgery. READ MORE

2. Sensory-motor regulation of human biting behavior
Abstract : In order to control oral motor behavior, such as biting and chewing, we rely on information provided by a variety of sense organs, including periodontal mechanoreceptors (PMRs). The PMRs, located among the collagen fibers in the periodontal ligament that attaches the root of the tooth to the alveolar bone, send signals to the central nervous system when the surrounding collagen fibers are stretched by loading of the tooth. 3. Regulation of experimentally induced airway obstruction
Abstract : Asthma is one of the commonest diseases in industrialized countries. The cause and mechanisms of !he disorder are still not fully unden;tood, al!hough it is known that inflammation in !he airways plays an important role. Inflammatory mediators, e.g. READ MORE

4. Regulation of neurotrophic signaling molecules in motor neurons, primary sensory neurons and target tissues in senescence
Abstract : A hallmark of senescence is sensorimotor impairment, characterized by gait disturbance, deficits in postural control, and muscle weakness. The object of this thesis work was to elucidate some of the molecular basis underlying these disturbances, mainly referring to the occurrence of characteristic changes in gene-expression pattern, especially, alterations in trophic signaling associated with the phenotypic changes seen in motoneurons as well as primary sensory neurons and target muscles during aging. 5. Corticosteroids in Lumbar Disc Surgery
Abstract : In a prospective randomised double-blind study eighty patients with MRI verified lumbar disc herniation and corresponding clinical findings underwent microscopic disc removal. The patients were peroperatively given systemic and local corticosteroids or placebo, and followed for 2 years. READ MORE
