1. Synthesis of Nitrogen Heterocycles via 1,3-Dipolar Cycloadditions - Method Development and Applications
Abstract : Because of the diverse properties displayed by nitrogen heterocycles, they are one of the most commonly used structural elements in drug discovery. Due to this variation in properties, however, the chemistry and synthetic pathway to each heterocycle is unique. READ MORE

2. Efficient and High-Yielding Routes to Diaryliodonium Salts
Abstract : This thesis summarizes three novel and general reaction protocols for the synthesis of diaryliodonium salts. All protocols utilize mCPBA as oxidant and the acids used are either TfOH, to obtain triflate salts, or BF3•Et2O that gives the corresponding tetrafluoroborate salts in situ. READ MORE

3. Diaryliodonium Salts : Development of Synthetic Methodologies and α-Arylation of Enolates
Abstract : This thesis describes novel reaction protocols for the synthesis of diaryliodonium salts and also provides an insight to the mechanism of α-arylation of carbonyl compounds with diaryliodonium salts. The first chapter gives a general introduction to the field of hypervalent iodine chemistry, mainly focusing on recent developments and applications of diaryliodonium salts. READ MORE

4. Hypervalent Iodine Reagents in Metal-Free Arylations and Vinylations : Investigation of Suitable Coupling Partners and Synthesis of New Reagents
Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of metal-free reactions to obtain carbon-heteroatom and carbon-carbon bonds. This is achieved by transferring carbon ligands from hypervalent iodine reagents to suitable nucleophiles. READ MORE

5. Direct Amino Acid-Catalyzed Enantioselective α-Oxidation Reactions and Asymmetric de novo Synthesis of Carbohydrates
Abstract : The ability of amino acids to form nucleophilic enamines with aldehydes and ketones has been used in the development of asymmetric α-oxidation reactions with electrophilic oxidizing agents. Singlet molecular oxygen has for the first time been asymmetrically incorporated into aldehydes and ketones, and the products were isolated as their corresponding diols in good yields and ee’s.
