  1. 1. Hydrophobic interactions of serpins

    Author : Sabina Janciauskiene; Enheten för kroniska inflammatoriska och degenerativa sjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteiner; enzymology; polymerization.; Proteins; conformational polymorphism; hydrophobic interaction; amyloid fibrils; Alzheimer`s peptide Ab; alpha-1-antichymotrypsin; C-terminal peptide; lithocholic acid; cholesterol; Key words: alpha-1-antitrypsin; bile acids; enzymologi;

    Abstract : The proteins of the serpin family are primarily but not exclusively proteinase inhibitors, which share a common, similar structure. It is known that this structure undergoes major conformational changes upon cleavage in the serpin reactive site loop, and that these changes include rearrangements within the hydrophobic core of the molecule. 2. 2. Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (PiZ): Clinical studies with special regard to hepatic and vasculitic disorders

    Author : Abdul-Nasser Elzouki; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gastro-enterology; systemic vasculitis; small-vessel vasculitis; serpins; genetic hemochromatosis; chronic hepatitis C; chronic liver disease; Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency; alpha-1-antichymotrypsin deficiency; Gastroenterologi; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Homozygous alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT)deficiency (PiZZ) is known to predispose to emphysema and chronic liver disease (CLD). The overall aim of the studies upon which this thesis is based was to investigate extra-pulmonary disease manifestations of AAT deficiency with special reference to hepatic and vasculitic disorders. 3. 3. Anticoagulant protein C--structural and functional studies

    Author : Lei Shen; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; serpins; membrane binding; factor V; protein C; protein S; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Anticoagulant protein C is a vitamin K-dependent factor circulating in plasma as a zymogen of a serine protease. It is converted to its active form (APC) by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex on the surface of endothelial cells. APC inhibits the generation of thrombin by selective proteolytic inactivation procoagulant factors Va and VIIIa. READ MORE

  4. 4. Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies: Special focus on the role of serpins

    Author : Henrietta Nielsen; Enheten för kroniska inflammatoriska och degenerativa sjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Serine protease inhibitors (Serpins) are involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative dementia, including the two most common types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The pathological characteristics of AD include senile plaques, mainly composed of aggregated amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta1-42), but also serpins, and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau protein. 5. 5. Development of Methods for Measuring Protein C Inhibitor and Antithrombin: Use of Monoclonal Antibodies against the Reactive Center Loop-Inserted Forms of the Serpins

    Author : Margareta Kjellberg; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; monoclonal antibody; latent antithrombin; immunoassay; cleaved PCI; cleaved antithrombin; Antithrombin; APC-PCI complex;

    Abstract : Protein C inhibitor (PCI) and antithrombin (AT) are serine protease inhibitors (serpins) that are involved in the regulation of coagulation. Like other inhibitory serpins, PCI and AT adopt different structural conformations that are related to their functions. READ MORE
