6. Fabrication and Characterization of Aluminum Single Electron Transistors for Scanning Probes
Abstract : The main objective of the work presented in this thesis was to fabricatescanning single electron transistor probes that operate at pumped liquid heliumtemperatures. This required single electron transistors (SETs) with low resistance (R_) and relatively high charging energy (E_C), and the technology tointegrate SETs onto probes. READ MORE

7. Probing Electron Collisions in Nanostructures
Abstract : This thesis studies the role of interaction between charged particles for transport and optical properties in nanostructures. Simulations are provided for a quantitative description of the system dynamics probed by either current spectroscopy or light absorption. READ MORE

8. Nanoscale YBa2Cu3O7-δ devices -Searching for a subdominant order parameter using a single electron transistor
Abstract : The microscopic origin of High critical Temperature Superconductivity (HTS) is still an open issue in condensed matter physics. It is believed that by exlporing the quasiparticle energy spectrum one can learn about the mechanism promoting the superconducting state. READ MORE

9. First principles simulations of electron transport at the molecule-solid interface
Abstract : In this thesis I concentrate on the description of electron transport properties of microscopic objects, including molecular junctions and nano junctions, in particular, inelastic electron tunneling in surface-adsorbate systems are examined with more contemplations. Boosted by the rapid advance in experimental techniques at the microscopic scale, various electric experiments and measurements sprung up in the last decade. READ MORE

10. Quench-Condensed Metallic Clusters Studied by Single Electron Tunneling
Abstract : Using angle deposition through conventional electron-beam lithographic masks as the sample resistance was measured in situ, we defined constrictions with widths and lengths of about 5 nm in thin (1-3) nm granular films. The nominal film thickness in the constriction could be varied stepwise by in situ film depositions, changing the grain size and the configuration of the tunneling paths. READ MORE
