  2. 2. Towards Single-Ion Detection and Single-Photon Storage in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals

    Author : Mohammed Alqedra; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Single-ion detection; microcavities; quantum memory; rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Alqedra;

    Abstract : Solid materials doped with rare-earth ions are considered an attractive platform for quantum information applications. One of the main reasons for this is the exceptionally long optical and hyperfine coherence times of the 4fn states, due to the shielding provided by the outer lying 5s and 5p electrons. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards single Ce ion detection in a bulk crystal for the development of a single-ion qubit readout scheme

    Author : Ying Yan; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Yan; Ultra-violet laser spectroscopy; Single ion detection; Rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; Quantum computing; Laser stabilisation;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis was concerned with investigating the relevant spectroscopic properties of Ce ions randomly doped in an Y2SiO5 crystal at low temperatures (around 4 K), in order to develop a technique and an experimental set-up to detect the fluorescence photons emitted by a single Ce ion. The aim of the work was to determine whether a single Ce ion (referred to as the readout ion) can be used as a local probe to sense the quantum state of a neighbouring single-ion qubit via a state-selective interaction between the readout and qubit ion. 4. 4. Ion Tracks for Micro- and Nanofabrication : From Single Channels to Superhydrophobic Surfaces

    Author : Reimar Spohr; Lars Westerberg; Lars Montelius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion track; single ion; real time; phase detection; conductometric cell; conductometry; electro replication; microtechnology; nanotechnology; surfactant; self organization; GMR; magnetic; sensor technology; hydrophobic; tilted texture.; Physics; Fysik; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : A method is described for preset-count irradiations between 1 and 100 ions singling-out individual ions from an ion beam with more than a billion ions arriving per second. The ion tracks are etched in a conductometric system with real-time evaluation of the acquired data. The etch process can be interrupted when reaching a preset channel diameter. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ferromagnetic resonance in films with growth induced anisotropy

    Author : Sergey Manuilov; Alex Grishin; Boris Kalinikos; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ferromagnetic resonance; magnetic anisotropy; single-ion anisotropy model; ferrites; magnetic epitaxial films; magnetostatic waves; pulsed laser deposition; magnetic alloys; domains; domain wall transformations;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses two different magnetic materials: epitaxial yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and heteromorphous CoFeB-SiO2 films. YIG films were grown by pulse laser deposition (PLD) techniques onto gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG) substrates of (111) and (001) crystal orientations. READ MORE
