  1. 1. Microvascular inflammatory response in the skin

    Author : Vladimir Evilevitch; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Physiology; Fysiologi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; sodium nitroprusside; terbutaline; anandamide; TRPV1; skin prick test; vanilloid receptor; skin microcirculation; laser Doppler imaging; Plasma exudation; vasodilatation;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the microvascular inflammatory response in the skin. The microvascular response includes vasodilatation and plasma exudation. In the first three studies, the combined response was measured in guinea pig skin with a technique based on detection of radiolabelled protein. READ MORE

  2. 2. Multispectral imaging of hemoglobin oxygen saturation in skin microcirculation

    Author : Maria Ewerlöf; Göran Salerud; Tomas Strömberg; Marcus Larsson; Maurice C. G. Aalders; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multispectral imaging; hemoglobin oxygen saturation; microcirculation;

    Abstract : The ability to measure microcirculatory parameters such as hemoglobin oxygen saturation is important since it mirrors the microcirculatory state of the body. The microcirculation delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body and, if impaired, may be a sign of circulatory failure. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on sitting pressure and buttock microcirculation : aiming at developing an alarm in the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries

    Author : Johan Thorfinn; Disa Lidman; Folke Sjöberg; Henry Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Blood supply; Buttocks; Hyperemia; Ischemia; Laser-Doppler flowmetry; Microcirculation; Posture physiology; Pressure; Skin blood supply; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : Pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries are a major problem, the prevalence in this group being reported as high as 20 – 30 percent. Most pressure ulcers develop around the pelvic girdle, and the key-contributing factor in the development of pressure ulcers is ischaemia due to longstanding pressure. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical Monitoring of Cerebral Microcirculation

    Author : Peter Rejmstad; Karin Wårdell; Göran Salerud; Neda Haj-Hosseini; Kerstin Ramser; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical monitoring; cerebral microcirculation; diffuse reflectance spectroswcopy DRS ; laser Doppler flowmetry LDF ;

    Abstract : The cerebral microcirculation consists of a complex network of small blood vessels that support nerve cells with oxygen and nutrition. The blood flow and oxygen delivery in the microcirculatory blood vessels are regulated through mechanisms which may be influenced or impaired by disease or brain damage resulting from conditions such as brain tumors, traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). 5. 5. Assessment of microvascular function by use of transdermal iontophoresis : methodological aspects

    Author : Erik Droog Tesselaar; Folke Sjöberg; Angela Shore; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Iontophoresis; Microcirculation; Laser-Doppler; Acetylcholine; Sodium nitroprusside; Pharmacodynamics; Pharmacokinetics skin; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi;

    Abstract : Assessment of the microcirculation is of major importance in understanding the physiology of the vasculature and in assessing te vascular effects of pathological conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and sepsis. Transdermal iontophoresis can be used to non‐invasively introduce vasoactive drugs into the skin. READ MORE
