1. Combinatorial Slice Theory
Abstract : Slices are digraphs that can be composed together to form larger digraphs. In this thesis we introduce the foundations of a theory whose aim is to provide ways of defining and manipulating infinite families of combinatorial objects such as graphs, partial orders, logical equations etc. READ MORE

2. Ischemic Cell Death in the CNS - applications of a new in vitro model
Abstract : Ischemic brain damage is a common cause of death and disability. A global ischemic insult is usually the result of a transient cardiac arrest while occlusion of cerebral blood vessels leads to focal ischemic lesions, commonly termed stroke. READ MORE

3. MRI evaluation and image processing in gel dosimetry. A study of selected MRI properties and image processing in 3D gel dosimetry
Abstract : Gel dosimetry is a new dosimetry method applied in radiation therapy. Gel dosimeters consist of a radiation sensitive gel, which can integrate absorbed doses from several radiation sources or beams. The dose to the gel can be evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a procedure that is the focus of the present thesis. READ MORE

4. Novel Approaches for Application of Principal Component Analysis on Dynamic PET Images for Improvement of Image Quality and Clinical Diagnosis
Abstract : Positron Emission Tomography, PET, can be used for dynamic studies in humans. In such studies a selected part of the body, often the whole brain, is imaged repeatedly after administration of a radiolabelled tracer. READ MORE

5. Creating Ultrafast Biosensors for Neuroscience
Abstract : Neuronal communication is the basis for all our brain function and relies on regulated exocytosis, a cell function that involves release of quantal amounts of neurotransmitters into the gap space between interconnected neurons to serve as chemical signals. To study exocytosis, which is a fast process that occurs on the timescale of sub-milliseconds to milliseconds, a toolbox of analytical methods has been developed where the electrochemical based techniques offer quantitative and sufficient high temporal recording speed.
