  1. 1. On the influence of surface roughness on rolling contact forces

    Author : Oskar Lundberg; Ines Lopez Arteaga; Leif Kari; Matthias Kröger; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rolling contact; Surface roughness; Contact forces; Contact modelling; Friction; Road; Asphalt; Substrate; Test-rig; Sliding; Stick–slip; Tyre; Rubber; Tread-block; Wheel–rail interaction; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : Road vehicle tyres, railway wheels and ball bearings all generate rolling contact forces which are transferred within a finite area of contact between the rolling element and the substrate. Either it is visible or not for the human eye, a certain degree of roughness is always present on the contacting surfaces and it influences the generation of both vertical and lateral contactforces. 2. 2. On wear in rolling/sliding contacts

    Author : Rickard Nilsson; Ulf Olofsson; I. Sherrington; KTH; []
    Keywords : Technology; wear; rolling; sliding; contact; environment; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to increase the understanding of wear in rolling/sliding contacts such as the wheel-rail contact for railroads and the roller-washer contact for roller bearings. The Stockholm commuter train network has been the subject of papers A and B in this thesis in which the wear and surface cracks on rails has been observed for a period of three years. READ MORE

  5. 5. A study on wear characteristics of high strength steels under sliding contact

    Author : Abdulbaset Mussa; Pavel Krakhmalev; Jens Bergström; Jens Hardell; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High strength steels; thread joint wear; punch wear; sliding wear; surface cracking; reciprocal sliding; fatigue; surface delamination; white etching layer; nano-structured layer; friction; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Abstract : In the last decades, significant improvements regarding the design, materials and technology of rock drills have been made. Likewise, in sheet metal forming, forming tools experience very high contact pressures when processing high strength steel sheets. READ MORE
