1. On modelling of slope stability in sensitive clay
Abstract : The stability of natural slopes is a global problem, with the number of landslides and the associated socioeconomic losses increasing, as a result of the global trend of urbanisation, deforestation and changed weather patterns. The available methods for identifying potential failure modes and assessing the stability, however, overly simplify the modelled soil behaviour within a slope, which might lead to unnecessary mitigation measures or non-conservative results. 2. Impact of Water-Level Variations on Slope Stability
Abstract : Waterfront-soil slopes are exposed to water-level fluctuations originating from either natural sources, e.g. extreme weather and tides, or from human activities such as watercourse regulation for irrigation, freshwater provision, hydropower production etc. READ MORE

3. Predominant failure mechanisms at the Kiirunavaara mine footwall
Abstract : The Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LKAB) Kiirunavaara mine is a large scale sub-level caving (SLC) mine in northern Sweden. The use of SLC as a mining method inherently causes significant rock mass movements above the extraction level. READ MORE

4. Numerical analyses of stability of a gradually raised tailings dam
Abstract : Numerical analyses are presented in this thesis to address potential stability problems that may occur during gradual raisings and under seismic loading conditions of Aitik tailings dam in northern Sweden. The dam is mainly raised using upstream construction method. It is planned to raise the dam gradually in several stages. READ MORE

5. Electromechanical effects and optimization modalities of cardiac resynchronization therapy
Abstract : Background and aims: Heart failure is a major health care problem, with high morbidity and mortality rates. In recent years, cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has become an established additive treatment for patients with advanced heart failure, left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, and wide QRS complex.
