  1. 1. Solution-Chemically Derived Spectrally Selective Solar Absorbers : With System Perspectives on Solar Heating

    Author : Tobias Boström; Ewa Wäckelgård; Gunnar Westin; Björn Karlsson; Peter Lund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Materials science; solar; thermal; absorber; selective; chemical; Materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two parts, one dominating part concerning spectrally selective solar absorbers and one dealing with thermal solar systems. The appended papers I to VIII concern the solar absorber part, papers dealing with the systems part have not been included in the thesis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Measuring the solar atmosphere

    Author : Jaime de la Cruz Rodríguez; Göran Scharmer; Dan Kiselman; Mats Carlsson; Gianna Cauzzi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sun; Chromosphere; Spectropolarimetry; Solar observations; Spectral lines; Solar magnetic fields; Astronomy; Astronomi; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The new CRISP filter at the Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope provides opportunities for observing the solar atmosphere with unprecedented spatial resolution and cadence. In order to benefit from the high quality of observational data from this instrument, we have developed methods for calibrating and restoring polarized Stokes images, obtained at optical and near infrared wavelengths, taking into account field-of-view variations of the filter properties. 3. 3. Combining Models of Coronal Mass Ejections and Solar Dynamos

    Author : Jörn Warnecke; Axel Brandenburg; Juri Toomre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetohydrodynamics; convection; turbulence; solar dynamo; solar rotation; solar activity; coronal mass ejections; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : Observations show that Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are associated with twisted magnetic flux configurations. Conventionally, CMEs are modeled by shearing and twisting the footpoints of a certain distribution of magnetic flux at the solar surface and letting it evolve at the surface. READ MORE

  4. 4. Domestic Heating with Solar Thermal : Studies of Technology in a Social Context and Social Components in Technical Studies

    Author : Magdalena Lundh; Ewa Wäckelgård; Jan-Erik Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solar heating; solar energy; heating system; social components; market actors; interdisciplinary; heat storage; system solution; energy system; hot water; load profiles; socio-technical; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik; teknisk fysik med inriktningen mikrosystemteknik; engineering science with specialization in microsystems technology;

    Abstract : Research in solar heating has traditionally focused solely on increasing the system efficiency by improving the technical components. In this thesis the technical methodology and system boundaries are widened to connect the technical aspects with market actors that are highly influential on the implementation of solar technology. 5. 5. Exploring Electron Transfer Dynamics of Novel Dye Sensitized Photocathodes : Towards Solar Cells and Solar Fuels

    Author : Lei Zhang; Leif Hammarström; Yiying Wu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron transfer; Laser spectroscopy; Femtosecond spectroscopy; Transient absorption; NiO; DSSCs; DSSFDs; Charge separation; Solar energy conversion; Nanosecond photolysis; Photophysics; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : The design of dyes for NiO-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) has drawn attention owing to their potential applications in photocatalysis and because they are indispensable for the development of tandem dye-sensitized solar cells. The understanding of the electron transfer mechanisms and dynamics is beneficial to guide further dye design and further improve the performance of photocathode in solar cells and solar fuel devices.
