  1. 1. Solubility and polymorphism of molecular compounds

    Author : Sandra Gracin; Åke C. Rasmuson; David J. W. Grant; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; solubility; prediction of solubility; UNIFAC; activity coefficients; activity of the solid phase; polymorphism; controlled crystallization; sonication.; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the controlled crystallization of small organic molecules and is focused on solubility and polymorphism. The solubility was determined for phenylacetic acid, p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, p-aminophenylacetic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid and ibuprofen in both water and in a range of organic solvents. 2. 2. Development of dynamic microwave and sonication-assisted extraction techniques coupled on-line to gas chromatography

    Author : Magnus Ericsson; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the evaluation and construction of two solvent extraction methods for solid samples. The techniques are called Dynamic microwaveassisted extraction (I-III) and Dynamic sonication-assisted solvent extraction (IV-V). Both techniques are based on dynamic solvent extraction and are performed at elevated temperatures and pressures. READ MORE

  3. 3. SOUnd-DRIven BIOtechnology

    Author : Nasim Najjarzadeh; Paul Christakopoulos; Cristhian Álvaro Carrasco Villanueva; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Ultrasound has been vastly applied in different areas such as medical imaging and the food industry, but not much attempt has been made to investigate its influence on microorganisms and its potential to be applied in microbial biotechnology. Previous studies show the potential of acoustic waves to increase biomass yield, production of secondary metabolites and enhanced enzyme-catalyzed reactions, probably due to improved mass transfer and cell retention. 4. 4. Multifunctional silk: from fabrication to application

    Author : Manish Singh; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silk; Sonochemistry; Supercritical impregnation; Nanofiller; Soft biosensor; Enzyme mimic;

    Abstract : Silk fibers offer untapped internal structures to template the formation of nano-objects and active coatings. So far, access to all or part of the internal and organized structures has been a significant challenge. READ MORE

  5. 5. Adsorption, aggregation and phase separation in colloidal systems

    Author : Jing Dai; Istvan Furo; Peter Griffiths; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; chemical shift; spin relaxation; self-diffusion; micelle; core freezing; segregation; solubilization; release; adsorption; binding; surfactant; carbon nanotube; block copolymer; dispersion; competitive adsorption; nanocomposite; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The thesis presents work regarding amphiphilic molecules associated in aqueous solution or at the liquid/solid interface. Two main topics are included: the temperature-dependent behavior of micelles and the adsorption of dispersants on carbon nanotube (CNT) surfaces. READ MORE
