  1. 1. Protein stabilization. Some methods and mechanisms

    Author : Maria Andersson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sorbitol; protein stability; preferential exclusion; polyol; poly-NIPAAm; polymer; poly ethyleneimine ; polyelectrolyte; oxidation; NMR spectroscopy; lysozyme; lactate dehydrogenase; fluorescence; dynamic light scattering; complex; additive; circular dichroism; stabilization; trypsin; thermo-reversible polymer.; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The effect of different additives on protein stability was studied, and the basis for stabilization was investigated at molecular level. The addition of sorbitol enhanced thermal stability of hen egg white lysozyme in aqueous solution. READ MORE

  2. 2. Congenital malformations in experimental diabetic pregnancy : Aetiology and antioxidative treatment

    Author : Martin Simán; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pregnancy; teratology; malformations; embryo; fetus; cataract; sorbitol; antioxidants; butylated hydroxytoluene; vitamin E; vitamin C; TBARS; neural crest cells; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus in pregnancy causes congenital malformations in the offspring.The aim of this work was to characterize biochemical and morphologic anomaliesin the conceptus of an animal model of diabetic pregnancy. In addition, apreventive treatment against diabetes-induced dysmorphogenesis was developed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bioactive Carbohydrates in Vining Peas (Pisum sativum) - Variation in alpha-galactoside content and the colonic fermentation of sugar alcohols

    Author : Jimmy Ekvall; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alpha-galactosides; raffinose family oligosaccharides; Näringslära; Nutrition; short-chain fatty acids; colonic fermentation; myo-inositol; sorbitol; xylitol; sugar alcohols; blanching; maturity; cultivar; Pisum sativum;

    Abstract : The composition of the colonic microflora is essential for the health of the human host. To be able to survive, the microflora is dependent of a continuous supply of substrate. In this respect dietary fibre and other indigestible carbohydrates, of which the consumption in affluent societies is generally low, are of great importance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Systemic absorption of glycine solution and the TUR syndrome : clinical, pathophysiological and pharmacological aspects

    Author : Anders Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Irrigating fluid transurethral resection of the prostate; complications adverse effects pharmacokineticsglycine sorbitol mannitol hemodynamics physiology hyponatremia body fluids fluid balance ethyl alcohol breathanalysisStockholm 1996;

    Abstract : Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) requires the use of an irrigating fluid to remove blood and debris to visualise the operating area. Despite modern technique, unpredictable amoumts of irrigating fluid, which usually consists of glycme 1.5% in sterile water, enters the circulation during nearly every routine TURP. READ MORE

  5. 5. Plant Phosphoinositide Kinases. A Study of PtdIns 4-kinases and a PtdIns 4-phosphate 5-kinase

    Author : Tomas Westergren; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; regulation; plant phosphorylation; plasma membrane; lipid kinase; divalent ion; phosphoinositide; substrate specificity; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Phosphoinositides are of particular interest in signal transduction processes as they can be sequentially phosphorylated and used as precursors for the intracellular messengers inositol trisphosphate (InsP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG) that in turn affects calcium levels and protein kinase cascades, eventually leading to a physiological response. The activity and regulation of PtdIns 4-kinases and PtdInsP kinase was studied. READ MORE
