1. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling
Abstract : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 2. Tracing Copper from society to the aquatic environment : Model development and case studies in Stockholm
Abstract : Copper remains at elevated levels in the aquatic environment of Stockholm due to diffuse urban sources. Management of these diffuse sources requires their quantification but they cannot be measured directly by field observations. READ MORE

3. Norovirus Tracing in Environmental and Outbreak Settings - Experiences of waterborne, foodborne and nosocomial transmission
Abstract : Noroviruses (NoV), a major cause of acute gastroenteritis in hospital settings, also occur as sporadic infections or periodic non-seasonal community outbreaks. Human NoV replicates to high concentration in the intestinal tract, is readily transmitted by the faecal-oral route, hand-to-hand contact, contaminated food and water, and by aerosols. READ MORE

4. Nitrogen-cycling tracing methods : Case studies at cold-climate mine sites in northern Sweden
Abstract : High nitrogen effluents from mine sites is an environmental issue which has received relatively little attention historically. In recent years a number of studies have showed the environmental effects of high nitrogen discharge to natural water bodies, which include local eutrophication, high risk of acute reducing conditions and changed species composition in the receiving waters. 5. Tracing anthropogenic Technology Critical Elements using Environmental Forensics : Case studies at Kallholmsfjärden and the Bothnian Bay, northern Sweden
Abstract : The rapidly changing landscape of today's technology industry has increased the number of electronic products being discarded. Society is always on the hunt for the latest product and newest technological advancement, thereby creating a constant influx of older model products into fast-growing waste streams. READ MORE
