  1. 1. Spatial Spread of Organisms : Modeling ecological and epidemiological processes

    Author : Tom Lindström; Uno Wennergren; Colleen Webb; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Spatial kernel; Spatially explicit modeling; Disease transmission; Animal movements; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the spread of organisms in both ecological and epidemiological contexts. In most of the studies presented, displacement is modeled with a spatial kernel function, which is characterized by scale and shape. These are measured by the net squared displacement (or kernel variance) and kurtosis, respectively. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Bronze Age metalwork in southern Sweden : aspects of social and spatial organization 1800-500 B.C

    Author : Thomas B. Larsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Bronsåldern; Föremål; Metaller; Sverige; Bronze metalwork; spatial distributions; social organization; settlement patterns; ideology; production; reproduction; accumulation; exchange; symbols; multivariate analysis.;

    Abstract : The present work highlights the Bronze Age metalwork in Southern Sweden, deposited c. 1800-500 B.C., found as single finds or in burials and hoards. READ MORE

  3. 3. Spatial Mixture Models with Applications in Medical Imaging and Spatial Point Processes

    Author : Anders Hildeman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Non-Gaussian; Bayesian level set inversion; Point processes; Substitute CT; Finite mixture models; Spatial statistics; Gaussian fields; Non-Gaussian;

    Abstract : Finite mixture models have proven to be a great tool for both modeling non-standard probability distributions and for classification problems (using the latent variable interpretation). In this thesis we are building spatial models by incorporating spatially dependent categorical latent random fields in a hierarchical manner similar to that of finite mixture models. READ MORE

  4. 4. Entropy, information theory and spatial input-output analysis

    Author : David F. Batten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Commodity flows; dynamic analysis; entropy; information theory; input-output analysis; probability distributions; regional and interregional modelling;

    Abstract : Interindustry transactions recorded at a macro level are simply summations of commodity shipment decisions taken at a micro level. The resulting statistical problem is to obtain minimally biased estimates of commodity flow distributions at the disaggregated level, given various forms of aggregated information. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on spatial and temporal distributions of epiphytic lichens

    Author : Håkan Lättman; Per Milberg; Jan-Eric Mattsson; Tord Snäll; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Lichens are an important group of organisms in terms of environmental issues, conservation biology and biodiversity, principally due to their sensitivity to changes in their environment. Therefore it is important that we develop our understanding of the factors that affect lichen distribution. READ MORE
