  1. 1. Spatial transcriptome and epigenome analysis with focus on prostate cancer

    Author : Maja Marklund; Joakim Lundeberg; Patrik Ståhl; Marc Friedländer; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Spatial; Spatial Transcriptomics; Spatial ATAC; epigenomics; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : Each cancer is unique, and therefore the use of general treatments are often suboptimal. If we can understand the mechanisms of cancer development, we might be able to develop effective treatments tailored to each patient. Our bodies are complex three-dimensional structures and how things are organized correlate with proper functioning. READ MORE

  2. 2. Functional understanding of space : Representing spatial knowledge using concepts grounded in an agent's purpose

    Author : Kristoffer Sjöö; Patric Jensfelt; David Vernon; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spatial representation; autonomous robots; spatial understanding; semantic mapping; spatial relations; visual search; robot search;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the role of function in representations of space by robots - that is, dealing directly and explicitly with those aspects of space and objects in space that serve some purpose for the robot. It is suggested that taking function into account helps increase the generality and robustness of solutions in an unpredictable and complex world, and the suggestion is affirmed by several instantiations of functionally conceived spatial models. 3. 3. Computational methods for analysis of spatial transcriptomics data : An exploration of the spatial gene expression landscape

    Author : Alma Andersson; Joakim Lundeberg; Omer Bayraktar; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spatial transcriptomics; machine learning; data analysis; RNA-seq; probabilistic; statistical; models; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : Transcriptomics techniques, whether in the form of bulk, single cell/nuclei, or spatial methods have fueled a substantial expansion of our knowledge about the biological systems within and around us. In addition, the rate of innovation has accelerated over the last decade, resulting in a multitude of technological advances and new methods for generation of transcriptomics data. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hedonic prices, economic growth, and spatial dependence

    Author : Krister Sandberg; Lars Westin; Bernard Fingleton; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; business and economics; hedonic prices; spatial econometrics; co-operative flats; spatial dependence; SAR-GM; Single-family Homes; Heterogeneity; China; Convergence; Provincial Economic Growth; Ekonomi; Business and economics; Ekonomi; nationalekonomi; Economics;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers on econometric modeling of spatial dependence. The awareness of interactions between actors is fundamental for understanding property markets as well as the growth of regions. In both cases, neighbors and neighboring markets may stimulate or hamper growth of values. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spatial Analysis and Modeling for Health Applications

    Author : Lars Skog; Yifang Ban; Matthew Smallman-Raynor; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sweden; spatial analysis; spatial modeling; spatio-temporal spread; epidemiology; pandemic; walkability; health; Russian influenza; Asian influenza; A H1N1 pdm09; GWM; climate factors;

    Abstract : Despite the benefits of applying methods of geographic information science (GIScience), the use of such methods in health service planning and provision remains greatly underutilized. Spread of epidemic diseases is a constant threat to mankind and the globalization of the world increases the risk for global attacks from multi-resistant bacteria or deadly virus strains. READ MORE
