  1. 21. Behavioural differences and genetic relationships between four captive populations of red junglefowl (Gallus gallus) : possible implications for conservation

    Author : Jennie Håkansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Red junglefowl; behavioural differences; genetic relationships; captive populations; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Conservation of species is to a large extent carried out by zoos where animals are kept in small populations under protected conditions. The ultimate goal of such ex situ conservation programs is to eventually reintroduce the animals into natural habitats to provide support for the survival of the species. READ MORE

  2. 22. The use of molecular markers for identifying species diversity and functional variation of ectomycorrhizal fungi

    Author : Jenny Hedh; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ectomycorrhiza; molecular markers; Paxillus involutus; ITS region; phylogenetic species; host compatibility; gene expression; CGH;

    Abstract : Ectomycorrhiza (EM) is a symbiosis between soil living fungi and the roots of woody plants. EM fungal communities are important in forest nutrient cycling, they are species rich and their structures vary between habitats and over time. READ MORE

  3. 23. Lifestyle and Genome Evolution in Vector-Borne Bacteria : A Comparison of Three Bartonella Species

    Author : Anna Carolin Frank; Siv Andersson; Stewart Cole; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Bartonella; evolution; host-restriction; vector-borne; horizontal gene transfer; genome reduction; alpha-proteobacteria; Type-IV secretion; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Bacterial genomes provide records of the molecular processes associated with emergence and evolution of different bacterial lifestyles. This thesis is based on whole-genome comparisons within the genus Bartonella, an excellent model system for studies of host- and vector-specificity and infection outcome in animal-associated bacteria. 4. 24. Structure and Dynamics of Core-Excited Species

    Author : Oksana Travnikova; Maria Novella Piancastelli; Svante Svensson; Denis Ceolin; Pascal Lablanqui; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; Synchrotron radiation; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy XPS ; X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy XAS ; Resonant Auger Spectroscopy RAS ; Auger Electron Spectroscopy AES ; Energy-Selected Auger Electron PhotoIon COincidence ES-AEPICO ; core excitation; core ionization; linear free energy relationships LFER ; molecular-field splitting; substituent effects; nuclear dynamics; isomerization; Cl2; N2O; methane derivatives; allene; acetylacetone; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have performed core-electron spectroscopy studies of gas phase molecular systems starting with smaller diatomic, continuing with triatomic and extending our research to more complex polyatomic ones. We can subdivide the results presented here into two categories: the first one focusing on electronic fine structure and effect of the chemical bonds on molecular core-levels and the other one dealing with nuclear dynamics induced by creation of a core hole. 5. 25. Phylogenetic relationships and species richness of coprophilous ascomycetes

    Author : Åsa Nyberg Kruys; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ß-tubulin; Bayesian analysis; dung; forage; fungi; moose; parsimony; phylogeny; Pleosporales; spore dispersal; Sporormiaceae; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Abstract : Coprophilous ascomycetes are a diverse group of saprobes, of which many belong to three families, Delitschiaceae, Phaeotrichaceae and Sporormiaceae, within the large order Pleosporales. The natural relationships and circumscription of these families are unclear, especially within the family Sporormiaceae, where the generic delimitation have been questioned. READ MORE
