  1. 11. Generation and evolution of human antibody repertoires

    Author : Helena Persson; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; specificity; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; phage display; IgE; hapten; grass pollen allergen; diversity; antibody repertoire; antibody library; antibody evolution; affinity maturation; allergy;

    Abstract : This thesis, which is based on five original papers, covers different aspects of antibody specificity and diversity, with the overall goal to understand the makeup of antibody repertoires and their functionality as they occur in vivo or as they are developed in the laboratory. Besides their importance in the adaptive immune response, antibodies have emerged as an invaluable tool in applications ranging from basic research to disease diagnostics and therapy. READ MORE

  2. 12. Engineering carbonic anhydrase for highly selective ester hydrolysis

    Author : Gunnar Höst; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; Lars-Göran Mårtensson; Per Berglund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbonic anhydrase; specificity; hydrolysis; rational design; protein engineering; plasmodium falciparum; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : I denna avhandling presenteras arbete utfört med enzymet humant karboanhydras II (HCAII). Enzymer är en typ av proteiner som accelererar (katalyserar) kemiska reaktioner, vilket är nödvändigt för allt levande. Den naturliga funktionen för HCAII är att katalysera omvandlingen av gasen koldioxid till vätekarbonat, som är löslig i vätska. READ MORE

  3. 13. The 14-3-3 protein family - Conserved structure, diverse functions

    Author : Magnus Rosenquist; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; regulation; phosphorylation; plant; plasma membrane; fusicoccin; H ATPase; binding motifs; specificity; evolution; 14-3-3; isoforms; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : While once abstruse, 14-3-3 proteins are now well known as players in several cellular processes. These processes range from apoptosis and mitosis in mammals and yeast, to regulation of primary metabolism in plants. To date, 104 proteins have been shown to interact with 14-3-3s of which 85 are found in mammals and yeast, and 21 are found in plants. READ MORE

  4. 14. Digital Electrical DNA Sensing

    Author : Maoxiang Guo; Wouter van der Wijngaart; Fredrik Westerlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : DNA detection; thiol-ene-epoxy; rolling circle amplification; digital measurement; DNA stretching; microwell-array; gold nanowires; electrical measurement; specificity; limit of detection; liquid storage; disease diagnosis; lab-on-a-chip; point-of-care.;

    Abstract : Molecule detection is a workhorse in life sciences and medicine, for example in cancer diagnosis and virus and bacterial detection. DNA analysis can provide vital information about the state of a host organism and its medical and health condition. READ MORE

  5. 15. Wireless esophageal PH monitoring. Clinical evaluation of a new technique

    Author : Jörgen Wenner; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; thresholds; specificity; sensitivity; diagnostic accuracy; adverse symptoms; wireless; pH monitoring; gastroesophageal reflux disease; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : Esophageal pH monitoring is important in the clinical management of patients with symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and in research aiming to clarify the mechanisms involved in the development of GERD complications. Catheter-based techniques for pH recording are uncomfortable, not well tolerated by all patients and cannot reliably measure acid exposure in the most distal esophagus the region most prone to reflux-induced complications.
