  1. 1. Spin transfer torques and spin dynamics in point contacts and spin-flop tunnel junctions

    Author : Alexander Konovalenko; Vladislav Korenivski; David W. Abraham; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin dynamics; spin transfer torques; point contacts; magnetization dynamics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis is an experimental study of the spin-dependent transport in magnetic point contacts. Nano-contacts are produced micromechanically, by bringing a sharpened non-magnetic (N) tip into contact with a ferromagnetic (F) film. READ MORE

  2. 2. Atomistic spin dynamics and relativistic effects in chiral nanomagnets

    Author : Konstantinos Koumpouras; Anders Bergman; Olle Eriksson; Manuel Pereiro; Elena Vedmenenko; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis, studies based on magnetization dynamics on atomic length scales are presented for a number of magnetic systems, where Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction is present. First-principle methods, based on density functional theory (DFT), have been used to study the pairwise magnetic interactions, such as Heisenberg exchange and DM interaction, which are the crucial parameters for the helimagnetic systems. 3. 3. Relativistic theory of laser-induced magnetization dynamics

    Author : Ritwik Mondal; Peter M. Oppeneer; Jan Rusz; Olle Eriksson; Paul-Antoine Hervieux; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Relativistic quantum electrodynamics; magneto-optics; spin-orbit coupling; ultrafast demagnetization; inverse Faraday effect; magnetic inertia; Gilbert damping; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Ultrafast dynamical processes in magnetic systems have become the subject of intense research during the last two decades, initiated by the pioneering discovery of femtosecond laser-induced demagnetization in nickel. In this thesis, we develop theory for fast and ultrafast magnetization dynamics. READ MORE
