  1. 1. Spring dynamics in shallow lakes: the role of plankton, fish and macrophytes in a changing climate

    Author : Alice Nicolle; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zooplankton; spring; 0 fish; macrophytes; phenology; climate change; shallow lakes;

    Abstract : Shallow lakes such as Lake Krankesjön are characterized by their extended littoral zones, usually covered by submersed and emergent vegetation. In paper 1, I investigated the relationship between turbidity and macrophyte growth (Chara spp. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spring Phenology of Butterflies : The role of seasonal variation in life-cycle regulation

    Author : Sandra Stålhandske; Olof Leimar; Karl Gotthard; Wolf Blanckenhorn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phenology; Life cycle regulation; Phenotypic plasticity; Local adaptation; Butterflies; Diapause; Pupal development; Anthocharis cardamines; Herbivore – host plant interaction; etologi; Ethology;

    Abstract : Animals and plants in temperate regions must adapt their life cycle to pronounced seasonal variation. The research effort that has gone into studying these cyclical life history events, or phenological traits, has increased greatly in recent decades. READ MORE

  3. 3. Openness as Political Culture : The Arab Spring and the Jordanian Protest Movements

    Author : Arvid Lundberg; Johan Lindquist; Mark Graham; Daniele Cantini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; activism; Arab Spring; democracy; Jordan; political culture; aktivism; arabiska våren; demokrati; Jordanien; politisk kultur; socialantropologi; Social Anthropology;

    Abstract : This study is an exploration of the origins of the Arab Spring in Jordan and across the region. Based on ethnographic fieldwork among the leadership of the Jordanian protest movements, it suggests a new way of understanding why these movements fell apart. READ MORE

  4. 4. Three-Dimensional Load-Deformation Relationships of Arbitrarily Loaded Coiled Springs

    Author : Lars Lindkvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; extended stiffness model; helical spring; non-linear deformation; stiffness matrix; coiled spring; arbitrary load; large deformation; three-dimensional;

    Abstract : This paper reports the development of a computer based tool that can be used to predict the three-dimensional load-deformation relationships of arbitrarily loaded coiled springs. The non-linear deformation of the spring is calculated by dividing the spring into small elements for which the load-deformation relationships can be considered to be linear. READ MORE

  5. 5. Climate-induced changes : Its effects on plankton food webs from the Baltic Sea

    Author : Claudia Romero-Oliva; Edna Graneli; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate-induced changes; temperature; acidification; marine food web; natural plankton community; spring; summer; Baltic Sea; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Abstract : The Earth’s climate is determined different processes occurring in the atmosphere, land and ocean.Anthropogenic activities (mainly combustion of fossil fuels) have increased since the 1950’s, andthus the concentration of greenhouse gases that are warming up the planet. READ MORE
