  1. 1. Prostate cancer incidence, treatment and mortality : Empirical longitudinal register-based studies and methods for handling missing data

    Author : Marcus Westerberg; Rolf Larsson; Hans Garmo; Pär Stattin; Jimmy Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistics; mathematics; prostate cancer; missing data; survival analysis; longitudinal models; incidence; treatment; mortality; Mathematical Statistics; Matematisk statistik; Statistics; Statistik; Urologi; Urology; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Abstract : The diagnostic activity for prostate cancer has increased substantially in Sweden, primarily due to increased use of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing in asymptomatic men, and this has led to a large increase in diagnoses. There have also been changes in the diagnostic workup, guidelines, treatment strategies, and more effective treatments have been introduced in different phases of the disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and Evaluation of Nonparametric Mixed Effects Models

    Author : Paul Baverel; Mats Karlsson; Radojka Savic; Nils Hoem; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nonparametric; model; pharmacometrics; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamic; imprecision; covariate analysis; parameter distribution; Statistics; computer and systems science; Statistik; data- och systemvetenskap; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Biopharmaceutics; Biofarmaci; Clinical Pharmacology; Klinisk farmakologi; Computer Systems; Datorteknik; Farmakologi; Pharmacology; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : A nonparametric population approach is now accessible to a more comprehensive network of modelers given its recent implementation into the popular NONMEM application, previously limited in scope by standard parametric approaches for the analysis of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data. The aim of this thesis was to assess the relative merits and downsides of nonparametric models in a nonlinear mixed effects framework in comparison with a set of parametric models developed in NONMEM based on real datasets and when applied to simple experimental settings, and to develop new diagnostic tools adapted to nonparametric models. 3. 3. Intelligence and models for cognitive development

    Author : Linda Wänström; Daniel Thorburn; Gösta Hägglund; Dag Sörbom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; intelligence; cognitive development; sample size; multilevel models; latent growth curve models; Statistics; Statistik; statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : This dissertation focuses on cognitive development. In papers I and II, I study a special model, the second order latent growth curve model, that can be used to study cognitive development. Algebraic expressions for the variance of the estimation of slope differences are given. READ MORE

  4. 4. Road Safety Development Index : Theory, Philosophy and Practice

    Author : Ghazwan Al-Haji; Kenneth Asp; Karl-Lennart Bång; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transport; Road Traffic; Sustainability; Road safety; European research cooperation; Civil engineering and architecture; Research on Europe; Public health science; Statistics; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : This dissertation develops, presents and tests a new international tool, the so-called Road Safety Development Index (RSDI), which indicates in a comprehensive and easy way the severity of the road safety situation in a specific country and/or in comparison with other countries. There are three pillars of outcomes involved in the framework of RSDI. READ MORE

    Abstract : Aquatic ecosystems are an essential source for life and, in many regions, are exploited to a degree which deteriorates their ecological status. Today, more than 50 % of the European lakes suffer from an ecological status which is unsatisfactory. READ MORE
